Smart PM, someone should line up as 2nd. I can't as I am a good friend of Mis and I am afraid to ask a discount from him. I like the 50mm f/2.0. Of course not the 'M', the 'A' one for sure. $5 goes with 'A' that you can use with flash. A 50mm is the worse in LBA thoughts, is it? You can use a 50mm with the best minimum focusing distance and add a simple +4 and +6 close up as a bug shot training wheel without filter. Who cares if the bug licks on lens front. It is a $40 investment. PM for offer.

Hin, you are 3rd in line for the Toyo. But someone already PM'd me about the SMC-A 50mm f/2. Don't you have the FA 50mm f/1.4, Hin!?!?

OK guys, here is the shot of the front of the Toyo, with the dust spec I mentioned in my PMs. It's right under the 'C' of MC.

In the photo the lens is at its widest of 28mm, and the dust thingy is right on top of the rippled section, so I don't see a way the light even passes that way. At 135mm I haven't been able to detect any presence of the dust spec in photos on my K10D. Looking through the viewfinder of a film camera I cannot see the spec either (not that I would expect to, as its at the front of the light path, where scratches and dust don't affect the image in a detectable way).

The promised bee pics are coming up...

Here are some pics from the Toyo:

100% crop from above:

I'm quite impressed with this crop, bearing in mind it's an ISO800 shot of a moving bee. I hate testing lenses and getting nice shots like these because I start to question whether I should really be selling them

Disclaimer: I am Mis's good friend and I don't get commission out of the $40 lens that Mis sold. Heather and Hin have done the unthinkable in brain washing all the LBA tempted minds into no bidding, no ebay watchlist and no lusting to inexpensive but quality gear. The other possibility is the economics that turn us into LBA hibernation with suffering in the cell.

I will target my focus on the Cosmicar-A 28-80mm f/3.5-4.5 (by Pentax) (1:3.7 macro @ 80mm) followed by the M 50mm f/2.0 next.

Cosmicar-A 28-80 f/3.5-4.5
The Cosmicar-A is from Pentax, how come it is from Pentax. Perhaps Mis can fill in the detail. It looks like the Takumar Asahi 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 with Macro in 80mm that I once owned. The Cosmicar has A setting and with macro for 1:3.7 in 80mm end, this appears good walk around lens and it will come in quite handy with a easy reach for flower, product shots and best the 'A' allow you to use flash on the lens with proper exposure. And it surprises me the at long end 80mm, the maximum aperture is at f/4.5 instead of the f/5.6 in the Kit's lens. A definite faster lens and useful lens over the Kit's lens. My advice: take this for manual focusing lens for training on a budget. I used my Takumar 28-80 f/3.5 for manual focus training and later sold it with a small profit. Oh yah!

Pentax M 50mm f/2.0
The M 50mm f/2.0 is the next item I am interested as the M is not so far off from 'A' for a fast lens. Av mode works the best for K mount M lens. When will you use flash on a fast lens? Very infrequent and it is marginally less capable than the 'A' version but almost next-to-noon in my usage. And remember my take on having a cheap 50mm and try +6 close up filter as a training wheel for 1:1 macro on a budget:
  • a cheap 50mm with fast speed: $35
  • a +4 to +6 closeup filter: $15
  • A $50 training wheel for 1:1 close up training and resell later
  • -----
  • cost almost nothing for training purpose

Hin, you will get comission if I sell the Cosmicar for $80, but not for $40 shipped! This is a seriously good bargain, and I thought I was pricing it to sell... Maybe I'm selling in the wrong market.

I've been nothing but impressed with the performance of this lens.

I have another good deal here, if anyone wants an AF Pentax (Pentax-F 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5).
