Interested to see how this ends. The DA 16-85 is significantly better but people who own the 18-135 seem very happy with it.

I was first disappointed with the 18-135 and after I became better acquainted with it, and it's capabilities, I find it to be a pretty useful lens. The 16-85 is a great lens, no doubt about it, and the 2mm extra on the bottom end is actually much more than it sounds like, but is it worth giving up the 50mm on the top end? If I knew the answer to that question, only one of these would be for sale

For me, I opted for the 2mm on the wide end (16mm) and the generally better overall performance. I didn't have anything weather sealed at the wide end, and I wanted something as a general walk around and landscape lens.

I think pairing the 18-135 with the DA 15 would be a great combo. However, the 18-135 is weakest, I believe, at the long end. So you may still want a second lens at the long end.

I have the 55-300 PLM WR too, which I'm very pleased with. The overlap of either of the shorter two lenses works well with it, as a two lens kit. I have a couple of primes as well and could almost go primes + PLM as an option as well.

Shot with this 18-135!

At the long end: ƒ/8.0, 135.0 mm, 1/640sec, iso 100, Flash (off, did not fire) hand held, minimum PP

ƒ/5.6, 135.0 mm, 1/1000sec, iso 200, Flash (off, did not fire), hand held, no PP

ƒ/4.5, 53.0 mm, 1/640sec, iso 800, Flash (off, did not fire), hand held, no PP

---------- Post added 12-04-18 at 06:51 AM ----------

Shot with this 16-85 (weather has been horrible, since I got it!):

ƒ/4.5, 60.0 mm, 1/400sec, iso 800, Flash (off, did not fire), hand held, no PP

ƒ/5.6, 85.0 mm, 1/400sec, iso 1600, Flash (off, did not fire), hand held, minimal PP

LMAO!!! No, that's the deal I made with myself. If it doesn't fit in my camera bag, it gets sold. I run an Apecase 1200 (medium sized bag) and only have room for the 55-300 PLM, ONE of these two beauties and maybe two primes (one lens on the body, of course!) Besides, if it sits on a shelf it's much less likely that it will get used!

BUMP for heavy editing of the original ad AND a new, lower price! Only ONE lens is now for sale, my Pentax HD DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR. This is a smoking deal, with a new $44 UV filter, free shipping (in the lower 48 states) and other freebies. I recently paid more for this lens than I'm asking, BEFORE I bought all of that for it!

Won't last! This lens will go to ebay after the New Year. I just wanted to give members here a chance for it first!
