[SOLD] Kiron 70-150 f/3.8, Pentax K 45-125mm f/4.0, Kenko 2x Macro, Rokinon 2x TC

1. Kiron 70-150 f/3.8 ($65.0 + shipping) [SOLD]
  • mint copy in good working condition
  • no scratch, fungus and haze
  • includes front & rear caps
  • filter size is 52mm
  • manual focus without 'A' aperture, but Av mode is found consistent with the lens
  • the cutest lens that I have handled in terms of size and compactness
  • all metal construction from Kiron. Kiron well made lens. In its time, people go for this lens instead of Vivitar Series 1 big brothers in 70-210 to save cost and it has 1/3 of the weight of its big brothers
  • superb in sharpness, Hin's words with his testing
  • color sometimes has tendency to go blue, can easily be addressed in pp
  • best in sharpness, color and contrast quite good
  • I find it best for portrait and street shooting
  • My reports

2. Pentax K 45-125mm f/4.0 ($130 + shipping) [SOLD]
  • a Pentax K mount manual focus zoom lens
  • in good working condition, normal wear
  • no scratch, fungus and haze
  • a great alternative to DA* 50-135 on low budget
  • manual focus without 'A' aperture, but Av mode is found consistent with the lens
  • filter size is 58mm
  • includes original front & rear caps
  • constant aperture f/4.0 throughout focal range
  • Very sharp lens wide open and vivid color and contrast
  • My reports:

3. Kenko 2x 1:1 Macro Teleplus MC7 ($70 + shipping) [Withdrawn]
  • in good working condition
  • cosmetic in mint condition
  • no scratch, fungus and haze
  • with non-original front & rear caps
  • works excellent in 1:1 macro with 50mm
  • has 2 x tele function
  • identical in function and appearance with the Vivitar 2x Macro Teleconverter. In my opinion, they are identical. Confirmed with two other owners of Vivitar 2x Macro.
  • has electrical contacts to allow aperture metering for 'A' lens, but not AF
  • require manual focus and for AF lens, focus trap remains to work for K mount lens
  • My reports:

4. Rokinon 2x TC ($7.00 + shipping) [SOLD]
  • in mint cosmetic condition, for K mount lens
  • no scratch, fungus and haze
  • has rear cap, no front cap
  • for manual focus only
  • no electrical contacts for automatic metering, need stop-down metering with either AE-L or green button
  • tested aperture metering linkage, all in working condition

Shipping & Handling
  • actual shipping charge using USPS priority
  • prefer paypal and US buyers but I can accommodate for international buyers with extra on shipping and paypal fee
  • please check on my feedbacks and buy with confidence

I will post pictures in next post. Please post a comment here and PM me for interest and questions so that I can honor the order of interested parties.

Good choice zzbao. Hin - not fair to tempt with the K zoom during the LBA pledge period. I'll just have to make do with the M75~150.

About the Kenko 2x 1:1 Macro Teleconverter

Here are some sample pictures when I use the converter on Pentax FA 50 f/1.4 and I also tried with good results with Pentax A 50mm f/2.8 1:2 macro. The first 2 test shots are made in 1:1 focusing with the TC. All test shots posted are with FA 50 f/1.4. Some test shots with A 50mm can be found in this link

Kenko 2x 1:1 Macro Teleplus MC7 On Hold

I have this converter on-hold as I don't get much interest in the macro converter. This looks identical in appearance and functionality to the Vivitar 2x Macro converter. I used it this morning and get it another workout with Pentax FA 50 f/1.4 in both the 1:2, 1:1 macro and the 2x tele functionality. I can sum up my more liking after the 2nd shoot out. Unlike previous average impressions, the 2x Tele is quite handy and very reasonable. I was shooting macro at 1:1, 1:2 in few minutes and when I turn the converter to the infinity end, the 2x tele kicks in and I have a reasonably fast 100mm f/2.8.

Please note all are snapshots done quickly to demonstrate the converter. No sharpening has been applied, I use mostly one button fix on contrast in Picasa

Thank you all for the interests and purchases. I have withdraw the Kenko 2x Teleplus Macro that is identical to Vivitar 2x Macro converter. With little interest except Frank and few other members, everyone seems patiently waiting for a price drop while watching the DOW goes down. Or perhaps, everyone is tied up on fund or most members have moved to own a 1:1 macro already.

I test it further on two days of shooting and I get to grow to love it on my FA 50 f/1.4. It is quite phenomenal. Results show are not my best as I do it in snapshot fashion without tripod, flash light, and careful planning on timing. I have to say I find this converter very easy to use, especially in the 1:2 down to 1:1 focusing. I have handled Lester A Dine, Extension Tubes, and Achromatic converter to try to get down to 1:1 and none are easy and results varies. And I opened up a Lens discussion thread and I will compare results later on

Kenko 2x Discussion in Lens Forum

The converter may not be the best means to achieve 1:1 macro but it is great for traveling where I always have my fastest prime in my bag and with this converter, I can achieve few things:
  • FA 50 f/1.4 as a fast prime as usual
  • a 1:2 or 1:1 macro with a turn on the converter, 1:3 and 1:2 is better for flowers for me.
  • a 100mm short tele-lens with reasonable maximum aperture at f/2.8
  • with combination of AF TC such as my up-coming Pentax F 1.7x TC and the yet-to-discovered Kenko 1.5x AF TC, I can have two more modes to work with my FA 50 f/1.4
    • an FA 75 f/2.0 with the Kenko 1.5x TC
    • an FA 85 f/2.8 with my Pentax F 1.7x TC or the promaster 1.7x that I just sold

With this converter, my FA 50 f/1.4 has 3-1 functionality, ie. 50 f/1.4 fast, 100 f/2.8, macro in 1:20 to 1:1 on a turn, and more if I bring along other TC's. And bokeh in macro is found quite excellent in test shots after some boost in contrast in pp.

And the Rokinon 2x TC in this thread has been relisted and sold in another thread and to-be picked up tonight locally.

Thanks,
Hin
