[SOLD] Sigma 105mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro EX (non-DG version)

1. Sigma 105mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro EX (non-DG) ($255 + shipping) [SOLD]
  • in good working condition, cosmetic very good,
  • no scratch, fungus and haze
  • lens kept in very good condition from previous owner who has gone into Canon camp. I only notice slight wear with one minor paint chipping on front, not easily noticeable and it does not affect filter ring at all and lens hood at all
  • comes with original lens hood, front and rear caps, original box and manual
  • comes with very elegant original lens holster in canvas green color
  • filter size is 58mm
  • Reason for selling:
    • I want to try out Tamron 90mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro or Tamron 90mm f/2.5 1:2 in adaptall 2 mounts as I may go for adaptall mounts to share between Pentax and my 2nd system
    • I am looking to get a 90mm to cover my need for 70mm, the Tamron 90mm will hold my thoughts for 77mm limited or 70mm limited
    • I find the MF missing focus trapping that I am used to rely on. AF works fine.
  • My reports:

Shipping & Handling
  • actual shipping charge using USPS priority, will request for insured shipping to be safe at buyer's cost.
  • prefer paypal and US buyers but I can accommodate for international buyers with extra on shipping and paypal fee
  • please check on my feedbacks and buy with confidence

I will post pictures in next post. Please post a comment here and PM me for interest and questions so that I can honor the order of interested parties.

PM answered and lens is still available. I paid $250 + shipping on the lens and I raise $5.0 to cover half of the paypal fee. Please note that this is an EX version of the lens but it is not the DG version. I find the price reasonably attractive if you are on a tighter budget for a true 1:1 macro.

When I compared my experience in trying 1:1 macro with Lester A Dine 105mm f/2.8 1:1 Dental Macro, I have more positive experience to share with this Sigma macro, especially the ease in going to 1:1 focusing. And the provision of focus limiter helps a lot to use this lens as a short tele-lens besides its great macro capability.

The lens is well built with no protrusion or extension when you get close to the bugs in 1:1 magnification and it works out well for me in testing on both bugs and flowers. My macro skills are not there for the sharpest pictures as from the few test shots that I have done, I can see great potentials if I manage to use flash to open up the depth to cover the whole bug

I don't recall exactly, it is probably about 1 feet in between the 1:2 and 1:1 magnification ratio in #1 and #2. #2 may be closer to 1:1 focusing. I was farther away on #3, it is roughly 1:2 on #3.

Had I managed to learn to use diffused external filled flash, it will open up the depth in #1 and #2 to cover the entire bug. There is great potential with this AF and 'A' metering modern macro prime from Sigma

MFD: 0.313m, Product Shots Samples

I check on the minimum focusing distance. On my EX (non-DG) version, it is stated as 0.313m (or 12.3 inches).

The lens serve me the best in product shots, I used to use my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 for product shots, but now I exclusively use the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro for it. It is the sharpest and the best for my outdoor product shots, it is especially good in PF as I have not run into PF with this macro. When I tested my $430 Lester A Dine 105mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro, that is not the case, I can easily see slight PF on the macro but not with the Sigma. This Sigma is quite outstanding in PF/CR handling.

hinman, your lens is a good macro!

the non-DG version is good very similat o DG versione: same sharpness, same MF, all others seem to equal and the build is noted to be better in the old version especially on the focusing grip.

it is a very interesting choise fo a 1:1 Macro
