Pentax SMC-A 24mm f/2.8 (A contacts don't work but optics are perfect)

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Full Frame lenses for your old DA Limiteds

Asking Price
0.00 USD

Item Location
Georgia (United States)

Item Description
For sale, or if you have a SMC DA 21mm Limited that you are willing to trade, let me know how much you want for it (HD version is probably out of my price range).

SMC Pentax-A 24mm f/2.8 - The A contacts don't work, so it works like the SMC-K 24mm f/2.8, meaning that you have the set the aperture via the aperture ring. Think of it as a K 24 2.8 with improved A coatings! Iris blades and aperture work perfectly. Clean glass, was cleaned by Eric Hendrickson a couple of years ago as he attempted to fix the A contacts to no avail (as told by previous owner - bought here in the Marketplace). 80 60 dollars firm.
Album: SMC Pentax-A 24mm f/2.8 | Flickr

Sale PendingSMC Pentax-M 150mm f/3.5 - The barrel is in excellent condition and the aperture/iris works perfectly, but it has fungus in the rear element which does affect the images. If you have good ability cleaning up lenses you can have a very rare Pentax lens for a fraction of what it usually costs. 50 20 dollars.

Finally, a Minolta MD lens: Sigma 75-250mm f/4-5 (Minolta mount). Excellent condition, aperture/iris works perfectly, it even has a cool lens case. No fungus, might have very slight haze from what I can tell. 20 10 dollars.

SOLDSMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.4 - Excellent condition. Iris blades and aperture work perfectly. Clean glass with the usual dust from a lens of this age. 70 40 dollars.
My album on flickr was taken with a previous copy of this lens that was not as sharp wide open.
Pictures from this copy:
Wide open:

Stopped down:

SOLDSMC Pentax-M 50mm f/4 Macro - Iris blades and aperture work perfectly. Very clean glass and also hardly any dust. Very good condition - it would be excellent but the "QC Approved" tag fell off. 70 50 dollars. (I have a more beat up copy of this lens I'm keeping!)
Album: SMC Pentax-M 50mm f4 Macro | Flickr (this was taken with the copy I'm keeping but I find they perform identically).

SOLDVivitar (Cosina) MC 24mm f/2.8 - Excellent condition, very good copy, very clear glass. Iris blades and aperture work perfectly. This one has the A setting for fully automated operation on Pentax bodies (but focus is still manual). Has original Cosina hood! 60 dollars.
Album: Vivitar (Cosina) 24mm f/2.8 | Flickr

SOLDI also have a Pentax LX that needs some work. The good news is that it has a working light meter! Those are expensive to change. The bad news is that the mirror is "lazy", meaning that it stops midway and then after a while moves again, but it could take a few or several seconds. It does not stay stuck open, it gets stuck mid-way. A CLA in theory should fix the issue, as I've seen reports of it being fixed by applying grease to the opening mechanism. It happens in mechanical shutter mode as well as electronic shutter mode (longer than 1/60s). I am valuing at 100 dollars for this camera instead of the 150 or so that the ones needing CLA usually go for.

SOLDTokina AF 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 - Excellent condition, very good copy, very clear glass. Iris blades and aperture work perfectly. Very affordable high quality full-frame superwide zoom! This is the only autofocus lens (on Pentax bodies only, of course) in the list. It has a hood that works well, at least on APS-C, and seemed to work well when I used it on film once, but does not lock perfectly on the lens. Still useable if you don't mess with it. 100 80 dollars.
Album: Tokina 19-35mm AF193 f3.5-4.5 | Flickr
FREE with this lens: two 77mm filters - A Tiffen Circular Polarizer and a Tiffen .9 ND Filter!

SOLD[Craigs Optics 60-300mm f/4-5.6 - Excellent condition (except for the baffle that has been trimmed to mount on DSLR) , very good copy, very clear glass. Identical to the Tokina version, so very likely made by Tokina. Great performer. Iris blades and aperture work perfectly. This one has the A setting for fully automated operation on Pentax bodies (but focus is still manual). 20 10 dollars due to the cut-off baffle.

I'll try and post some pictures of the LX tomorrow, I left it at the office. It seems to me like the focusing screen is the SE-25 since there's no microprism. It might be a customized screen also, I'm not sure. It's also quite dirty unfortunately.
The viewfinder seems to be the regular FA-1.

Yes I'll get some up soon!

---------- Post added 01-01-20 at 07:13 PM ----------

This took longer than I imagined...

Sorry about the phone pictures, my SD reader is dead and the USB ports are blocked...

SMC-A 24 2.8. Remember the A position does not work.

---------- Post added 01-01-20 at 07:36 PM ----------

Vivitar (Cosina) 24mm f/2.8

---------- Post added 01-01-20 at 07:38 PM ----------

And I already had some pictures of the Tokina 19-35mm AF f/3.5-4.5.

---------- Post added 01-01-20 at 10:27 PM ----------

Update: since no trade offers came in, I'm now accepting sale offers... Vivitar 24mm f/2.8 sale is pending.

---------- Post added 01-02-20 at 12:29 PM ----------

And here's some pictures of the LX, including one showing the position which the mirror gets stuck. Today I had to manually "help" the mirror go up, and then it finished the mirror slap by itself.
Light meter seems to work correctly, as does the winder.

Bonus motor drive and battery pack - if there is interest. I wouldn't think that it works, especially the battery pack. Also, no charger for the battery pack... it's most likely trash but I thought I'd give a heads up before canning it.

Again sorry for the cell phone pictures... the SD card reader is broken so right now the only way I can get pictures online is by taking with my cell phone and getting them on my computer via my google account...

So I had some questions about the LX - sorry I didn't answer about the focusing screen. It seems to be the SE-25 - large area with no microprism. I think it's quite rare but on the other hand it's also not what most people want. The focusing screen is quite dirty as well, needs a good cleanup.

I was asked about the prism and viewfinder. There's a scratch on one of the sides, over half an inch. Since it's black on black I hadn't even given it much of a though - but when you put it in a strong light it really shows up. So here it is:

---------- Post added 01-07-20 at 02:19 PM ----------

Throwing in a couple FREE filters with the Tokina 19-35mm - A Tiffen Circular Polarizer and a Tiffen .9 ND Filter!

Pentax LX is sold!
