Item Description
This is a huge lens: SMC Pentax 500mm f4.5, and is the version with the K-mount bayonet rather than the M42 mount.
Link to PF review page.
I purchased it in 2019 off ebay from a listing titled "Rare NEAR MINT Pentax SMC 500mm f/4.5 Telephoto MF Lens For K Mount from Japan", and I honestly haven't found myself using it much. I purchased a more modern Sigma 120-400 from a user here, and it's a lot smaller and lighter and gets way more use.
I'd held onto it thinking that I might use it for astrophotography, but unless you use it with filters this model has too much chromatic aberration to be super useful (example attached).
The lens itself is in really good shape - calling it "good" on the rating scale is pretty conservative. The case is in worse shape, and unless it's just a collectors piece I'd recommend that you store it in something else, as the case is starting to leave dust on the outside of the lens due to its age.
Happy to provide additional pics or other info if needed.

Posting another picture I dug out of the archives - really challenging low-contrast lighting conditions, taken from well below the bird, which was sitting high up in a tree. You can get some great photos from this lens if you're parked someplace with a tripod.

Dropping the price, but won’t go much lower - the lens is basically pristine, is the rarer k-mount version, and I know there’s somebody out there with a tripod and a good use case for this big sharp boy.
