Pentax Macro Focus Rail III:

This Pentax accessory was given a number of names: “Micro Moving Attachment”, “Fine Focus Adjuster”, “Fine Focus Adjuster II & III”, “Macro Focus Rail” and finally “Macro Focus Rail III”. I have compared two units from different eras, using different names, and could not see a difference and by illustrations assume that they are all identical.

It was used as a mounting, and camera positioning device on the Pentax Macrophoto Stand/Lighting Table and also used on the Copy Stand III and the Copy Stand IIIP.

By whatever name it is called, it would function well balancing a camera land lens combination, or moving the camera and lens for positioning and subject framing on a copy stand, and would be fine used in close-up photography with a macro lens up to 1:1 image ratio.

To set up for Arca-Swiss compatible quick release, it will allow a 2.375 (2 3/8) clamp to mount such as the Hejnar Photo F62 and will hold in place with the anti-twist ears on the front of the rail mounting plate. the Hejnar Photo bi-directional QR Plate #H007 will work nicely on the tripod mounting base.

This rail would also be useful for balancing a camera and larger lens such as a 200mm that does not have a mounting foot when tripod mounted.

Looks like the Velbon rail
Is it precise enough so when one go forward and backward, the framing of the subject stay aligned ? (seen that with other macro rails)

The Pentax rail (I have one) is very, very precise.
