Pentax 1.7X Teleconverter & autofocus adaptor

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax 1.7X Teleconverter & autofocus adaptor

Asking Price
250.00 USD

Item Location
Montgomery (United States)

Item Description
For sale is an excellent condition Pentax teleconverter. with original top cap and generic rear cap.
This 1.7x teleconverter/AF adapter provides autofocus capability with manual focus lenses. When used with autofocus lenses, the adapter performs the focusing rather than the lens.

Features of this teleconverter:

Autofocus (screw drive) also with manual focus lenses
Supports Tv or P exposure mode (in addition to M and Av), if the camera allows
The converter does not transmit focal length and MTF information from lens to camera
Supported Lenses:

K and M-series lenses with a maximum aperture of F2.8 or faster, except SOFT 85mm F2.2
A-series lenses with a maximum aperture of F2.8 or faster in the focal range 16 to 400mm, except macro lenses
smc Pentax-A 35-105mm F3.5 (macro setting not usable)
Fast apertures are strongly recommended since the converter reduces available light by 1.5 stops
Autofocus lenses can also be used, though the converter will do the focusing.

The Pentax 1.7x AFA actually moves elements within the adapter to provide AF.

I believe Minolta also did this, once upon a time.

I love to use it with my fast classic MF primes , like M42 , K , M and PKA.
You just need to prefocus the lens and the adapter will do the rest.
Very enjoyable.

It isn’t bad optically either, and it is full frame. So toss an fa* 300 or DA* 300 on, prefocus, and bang 510mm f8 (f7.7-6.8).

It was banned in Australia ( Lead-free glass ) years ago but not in Japan so I purchased a brand new one from Japan.

The only lead-free glass was allowed to be sold new in Australia ( and in Europe I believe ) , used gear was ok.

Are you saying that the F 1.7 AFA has lead in the glass?

lead

as far as I am aware , YES.
there are two " rumours "
1/ the Australian import law was changed at certain time in the past and this particular product was over the new threshold/limit
2/ since this product started to be assembled in Vietnam the level of lead increased - I do not believe in this one , does not make sense.

"The lead is added as it reduces the temperature of the molten material to allow for increased 'work time' with the glass. The addition of lead also provides an improved look to the finished product through increasing the refractive index and density of the glass, making it a clearer, less flawed substance"

I bought a copy of this on a whim last year and have enjoyed using it beyond expectations. I take it on all trips. Very good optical quality and a small size.
