This awesome lens has served me well. I mostly used it for sports action—both indoor and outdoor—but it came in very handy for portraits too. Images are tack-sharp and I really like having f/2.8 thought the zoom range.
I have been meticulous about caring for this lens. It is in perfect working order, and you won’t find a single blemish except the lock screw that is used to change the orientation of the tripod collar. It has some scuff marks (pictured) and it’s the only reason the lens isn’t rated “like new”.
People are impressed to see me carry it around at events. When asked about it, I say this lens does things other lenses don’t do. Specifically:
- Constant aperture f/2.8 – FAST lens, and professional-looking bokeh
- Weather sealed – you can shoot in the rain or a windy desert
- Internal autofocusing – no exterior elements move (except zoom ring & manual focusing ring)
- DC focusing motor – for fast and nearly silent autofocusing (no drive shaft autofocusing for pre-2006 cameras)
- Quick focus shift – you can manually adjust focus in autofocus mode
- Internal zooming – the lens doesn’t get longer or shorter
- Less distortion, chromatic aberration, and flare than other lenses
- Works with full-frame and APS-C sensors (107-307mm equivalent on crop sensors)
- Removable tripod collar – can be oriented for horizontal or vertical shooting
Speaking from experience, if you want to up your photography game, invest in decent glass. The choice of lens is often more important than which camera you use. People will take you seriously, too.
This lens ships in its original box with the rear and front lens caps, hood, owner’s manual, tripod mount, carrying bag and strap. I never used the last three of those, so they’re brand new.
