Price Drop: Kenko Pz-AF 1.5X Teleplus SHQ Teleconverter

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Kenko Pz-AF 1.5X Teleplus SHQ Teleconverter

Asking Price
80.00 USD

Item Location
New Hampshire (United States)

Item Description
I purchased this used locally last year and have used it quite a few times before buying the much more expensive Pentax 1.4X WR teleconverter when it was on sale. Basically since my lenses are weather resistant, I wanted the converter to also be WR.

The Kenko works fine and the optics are clear and free of scratches or scuffs. The body looks like new as well. You can compare the Kenko performance to other teleconverters from the link below, but I felt this particular one performed really well with my lenses. You can see it has all the linkages and contacts to work with pretty much all types of Pentax lenses up to and including the HD Pentax DA 55-300mm PLM. In other words, AF lens will retain their AF functions, including SDM, HSM and PLM lenses with KAF4 mounts.

These seem to have sold on ebay recently from anywhere between $78 to $171 dollars, and current pre-owned ones for sale start at $110, so I figure $100 is a fair price for one in this good a condition.

I didn't even know that this TC existed! Does it operate like the Pentax-F 17x TC? It seems to have a gear to transmit torque to the lens itself, which would require a screw-drive lens for AF?

Look at the review links I provided in in my listing. It has the mechanical AF motor drive linkage as well as the KAF4 electrical terminals so It provides full autofocus and auto-aperture functions for lenses up to and including the 55-300mm PLM. Note that this is not the DG version which may have improved anti-reflective coatings.

I have Tamron-F 1.4x variety - it is a passive "mechanical" / pass through only , but supports SDM , HSM etc

Pentax-F 1.7x is active ( with limitations ) but supports only screw AF

Agreed. To be clear - it does not add an AF function to non-AF lenses. It just passes all the signals/linkages between the camera body and an AF lens, up to and including KAF4.
