This is a very good lens for shooting butterflies "in the wild".

For example, this photo has not been cropped, and I am not even at the minimum focus distance.

Had I been at the minimum focus distance, this Eastern Tiger Swallowtail's wings would be touching the edges of the frame.

The lens itself is not particularly heavy, is very well built, and has a well-dampened focus throw that makes slight adjustments to focus very easy.

It is also happily compatible with the Pentax Rear Converter A 1.4x-L, which is actually sharper than the HD DA 1.4x TC, according to Pentax Forum's review.

Thanks for the photos showing what it's capable off!

Folks out there, you know you want this - it's a steal of a deal at only $1 per mm - Canadian at that!

I tried selling a friend on it, as I know he's using a very much inferior 300mm Bushnell adapted to his Sony, but he's saving up for a shiny new lens instead. It seems that the long lens Pentax club is a fairly small one.

I have this lens, its a great lens and still works well with AF cameras, even if its only manual focus. The FA 400mm is rather rare and goes for three times this price and truth be be told when your in the $1500 to $2000 range, there are better options in the AF line.

I have never seen a FA 400mm go for less than around $1300.

This is a great long lens for someone who just wants to play with a longer lens. Deals like this on a great older lens like this is why I love Pentax. Someone should scoop this up.

It's not just dogs, bears, bees, butterflies, and moose, either...

With a lens like this you can even shoot cats...

I've definitely loved my copy, and this is a good price in Canadollars...

And the odd Macropod... That is a good price - mine cost me similar dollars over 10 years ago!

Thanks for the sample shots!

And SOLD - I hope the new owner gets as much enjoyment from the lens as I did, and some photos start showing up on the forum
