SMC Pentax-A 400mm F5.6 - PRICE DROP

--- PRICE DROP $450 down to $400 ---

This lens has served me well for the last three years, it's an excellent starter lens to learn the technique of shooting at long focal lengths, and capture some great images along the way. Is manual focus a bother? Maybe, maybe not. Personally I didn't mind, and it helps you develop good shooting skills as well. I highly recommend this lens to anyone looking at getting started with some wildlife photography, but don't have the means to afford a more expensive option, or would like to give it a try first.

The lens is in good used condition. There's some dust, and a few small marks on the front element (tiny and certainly not affecting IQ!), as it is after all thirty-odd years old.

Shipping is at cost through Canada Post, and payment through e-transfer is preferred for Canadian buyers, but PayPal can be made to work instead. Returns shouldn't be necessary at all, it's as described and I'm happy to make sure you know what you're buying before you buy.

This is your chance to own a great super telephoto lens at under $500, that's under $400 for you south of the border!
As to what this lens can do? Everything.

From little insects (in flight even!):

To mountainscapes:

To dangerous wild beasts:

To friendly backyard birds:

And to roses:

Yeah... I get the reaction... I wrote this ad this morning, but only managed to post now. Still wondering whether I'll regret selling this beauty or not... But over the next few years I'll be moving around a fair bit - and I'm not seeing any situation where I would now reach for the A 400 over the 150-450. I think it's better for the lens to go to someone new and help them fulfill their photographic passions, than it is to sit around rarely used.

I would but then I'd have 2

The IQ is way better than the Tokina AT-x & the Sigma APO 400/5.6.

This lens originally owned by a wedding photographer who rarely used it and my first long lens. Most of it's life it was in it's case on a shelf. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to experience long glass, without paying a big price. Looks like it's time for it to introduce someone new to long glass.

Thanks for the history into this particular copy Norm!

I bought the lens from him a few years back, and it saw a good deal of use with me, but was never abused

Thank you Norm - you're doing a better job at promoting the lens than I am

Have a look folks at what this lens can achieve in the hands of a real photographer

Well I'm retired and I can only do physical work for at most 3 hours away. It's leaves me looking for things to do.

Plus I'm curating my 2013 images, when this lens was being used all the time. I definitely miss it's weight. You can't do better on a long hike.

That's been a month on the marketplace now... I know there's a buyer out there itching to PM me an offer on this excellent lens, you know you want to step up your wildlife game and improve your manual focus skills

If I didn't already have one, I'd be on this like a fat kid on a smartie, especially considering how much further I had to get my copy shipped. It's a great old lens though, and hopefully someone gets to enjoy it. And here's another gratuitous sample shot. It's an impressively sharp lens considering how old it is.
