For sale is a Pentax M 40-80mm Zoom Lens in excellent condition.
This is a unsual Pentax lens. It's moderately fast for a zoom at f2.8 on the short end. The focal length is a short normal to a short telephoto. It's quite compact and well built. This is a "M" class lens meaning manual focus and manual aperature control.
The most unusual aspect of this lens is the macro function. It close focuses to 0.37 meters (from film plane) and does a 1:4 macro. It does a fair job at the macros handheld and can easily be improved upon with a 49mm close-up filter. The macro mode clicks in place at the 80mm end and the focus ring moves forward to allow macro focusing at different levels 1:10 to 1:4. See sample of handheld in macro mode.
This sample has no problems. The glass is perfect. No yellowing, fungus, scratches or problems with the SMC coating. Focus is smooth. Zoom is smooth. No zoom creep. The aperature ring clicks solidly and the blades are snappy. Only a bit of brassing. Includes original front cap, cap keeper and generic rear cap. Works great on any of Pentax's digital SLR's (K100d, K10d, K200d, K20d)
I think every collector should consider trying this unique lens design.
