Hey Jess, Thanks for asking! You're referring to the mark on the metal near the top of the photo above showing the lens mount? That is not a scuff on the metal, but I agree this picture makes it look like one! Sorry about that. Here's a few shots of the lens mount from different angles.     There are some minor markings on the plastic near the center of the lens mount. They are not scratches, they're smooth flush with the surface (and not something I'm worried about). I don't know what they are, but I've seen them on other copies of this lens. I think this lens handles really well. I like to take it, along with the HD 15mm ltd, along on hikes. I've even used it with the 1.4x teleconverter on my KP. You'll find mixed reviews about that combination, but in good light it worked fine for me. I also have an older 55-300mm lens and this thing is way more enjoyable.
