Item Description
Hello,

Long time lurker, first time poster on this board. Been an amateur photographer for 10 years and have always used Pentax.

I've decided the time has come to sell my massively cherished Pentax SMCP-FA 200mm f/2.8 IF Lens. In my opinion one of the best telephoto lenses ever made.

I've had it since new, and it was extensively serviced by pentax thoroughly two years ago after developing a small problem. It's in good condition but has a few small scratches (about 3 noticeable ones on the body, one or two on the hood) which happen with all Pentax's silver lenses because of the colour. It's in perfect working order, complete with the hood and rear cap.

Annoyingly i threw the boxes for all my pentax stuff out last year, but might be able to find the repair invoice or even sales invoice somewhere.

As i'm sure you all know it's basically the non digital version of the newer 200mm 2.8 pro model pentax have out - the DA - but I feel the FA is much better looking, with a better colour profile output in my opinion and metal lens hood, generally better construction, and a slightly slimmer profile. It also has an aperture ring unlike the DA and possibly most importantly, can be used in digital or film bodies equally well.

I'm sure you are aware how rare these lenses are. I'm gutted to be letting it go but times change. I'm looking for the lens to go to a good home to someone on here. Best closest offer to the £550 mark takes the lens.

Collection can be from central London or Cambridge. More than welcome to pop by for a test in London, I'm in Islington. I will upload some pics I've taken with it on here in due course.

Best, Chris

Additional info if required: Works 100% on all K mount cameras including all Pentax digital cameras - *ist D, DS, DS2, DL, DL2, K100D, K110D & K10D.

I've used this lens less than 10 times in total in the last 3-4 years, always in the dry, and is unused since its service from pentax in 2006. Glasses and body are all perfect, aside from the aforementioned scratches on the silver paintwork.

Price corrected to current market value of approx £550
Pictures of the lens now added here, and two further ones taken showing its performance in two very different situations. I've heavily compressed them to fit on here obviously.

I've managed to find some recent used prices for this lens after some long, hard searching (only two came up it seems the whole of 2008 to my knowledge) which I was unable to before, and have corrected the used price i'm expecting to receive accordingly. Appreciate some of your messages on the subject, it is my intention to offer this lens at the appropriate market value, which i think i have reached now, and have updated the initial posts. Also the condition of this lens falls between fair/good.

Thanks, Chris

Here's a free bump for a wonderful lens.

(no comment on the condition of this copy though, you need to check the OP's description for that.) Is it still available?

Hello, previous buyer pulled out so the FA 200 is still available. Will accept best offer now of around £450 on it. Thanks Chris

I second Alfisti's recommendation. This is a great lens. The DA* lenses are so young, that childhood diseases may still pop up. The FA generation has grown beyond that

For me an important reason to keep the FA and not the DA is that I can use FA on my MZ-5N and P30, too. The DA* lacks the aperture ring.

And I did not miss weather sealing or ultrasonic drive until it was invented...

FYI: I have just found out (well last week actually) it was my 28-70 FA that had the fault, but both lenses went in for servicing together. The 200 is, and has always been, faultless. Sorry for the misinformation. Chris
