Someone please consider this lens seriously. While everyone throw out money in Tamron 17-50 and Pentax DA 16-50. Please take note on this very versatile lens. This is NOT to be ignored if you are on a budget. The lens has few things to compete with Tamron 17-50 and Pentax DA* 16-50. It has its place and I replace my Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 with Sigma 17-70 for a reason.

I am a LBA playboy and I need to sell it too in the near future but a good lens is a good lens not to be missed.

Hear me out on this GEM in my book:
  • the extra 50mm to 70mm make this a versatile gem in my book.
  • range in 17-70 beat the range in 16-50 in my use as it incur less lens change
  • you can go wide, normal in 35 to 50, and 50 to 70mm are great for portraits
  • 1:2.3 macro is superb value on this zoom
  • sharpness is not as good as Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 but color, contrast and versatility is better in the Sigma
  • This zoom is small and lightweight, similar to Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. It is MUCH lighter than the Pentax DA* or the Tamron 28-75mm
  • Build is excellent, I find it in par or better in build than the Tamron
  • MF is weak for the short focus throw. AF is NOT as good as Tamron, a bit slower, it is something to watch but still capable like other zoom to get the job done
  • Versatility is #1 on this zoom. If you like to be a strobist, this lens with a cheap $30 flash will beat the Tamron in both 17-50 or 28-75mm range
  • Rock solid without hearing common lemon problems in DA* 16-50mm or the recent focusing issues on Tamron 17-50 and Tamron 28-75
  • Hin highly recommend this zoom for versatility over the other zooms. The caveats lie in slower AF, slower speed in the long end, actually not by much if you compromise and consider the cheaper cost into the factor.

I'll buy the Sigma 17-70. My son has been looking for this lens and with the filters thrown in I don't think he can beat it.
I'm off to have lunch and go for a photo shoot this afternoon with my sister. But please know that I will buy the 17-70. I'll pm you tonight when I get home to get your information for payment.
Thank you

Thank you kindly Hin. My oldest son is going to be the new owner of this Sigma 17-70. I let him borrow mine for a trip he took a couple weeks ago and he really enjoyed using it, so he was looking to buy one.
