[SOLD] SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG

Heh, shameless self plug, I'm selling my Sigma. It's quite rare in Pentax mount and a good lens, but too big for my needs. I backpack so prefer small light lens.

The eBay listing is here:
eBay.co.uk: Sigma 70-200 (70-200mm) f/2.8 APO EX DG Lens for Pentax (item 150104992959 end time 02-Apr-07 00:15:30 BST)

I may conside add a Buy it Now offer if anyon can strike a deal.

thanks!

Katsura,

It is a magnificent lens. Too bad you feel the urge to vanquish it from your arsenal. If I didn't recently add one to mine I would consider it. I hope you do well on the exchange.

Hi Stephen,

I debated long and hard before deciding to list it.

You are right, it's a great lens and I loved it the few times I did use it.

The thing is I'm planning my RTW expedition at the moment, and want to travel light. I got myself a Samsung DA 50-200, much slower lens but it's also a fraction of the weight and size. So trekking through jungles in Souther America won't be a sturggle .

I'll probabaly regret it one day, but it's on eBay now and I hope to see it go to a good Pentaxian family.

sigma 70-200 EX DG 2.8

Katsura,

after the recent debacle on eBay of a listing by Pentaxer for his 300mm f2.8 lens having gotten hijacked, I cancelled my ebay account (and I would encourage everybody here who does business with those a**h**** to do the same).

So, if you're interested in a direct sale of your lens, I've got the cash equivalent of 400#'s plus or minus in hand; let me know if you're interested or if you are not so that I can look elsewhere if need be.

thanks,

tony

Katsura,

Where are you heading specifically in the SA jungles? I did my graduate research down there in primate biology. Our camp was on a tributary of the Amazon on the Brazil/Peru border. I traveled with much heavier lenses than the 70-200 EX DG and never regretted it. The DA 50-200 is nice but it simply does not have the resolution of the EX. I own both and like both.

A word of advice. Depending on the period of time that you will be spending in the Amazon (I assume?) you may want to consider taking copious quantities fresh silica gel and waterproof plastic sealed bags to keep your lenses in. Humidity of the jungle type is rough on lenses and digital bodies. I wouldn't worry...I'd just take extra precautions. BTW....you will need a high powered flash if you are going to be filming beneath the canopy. Only 2% of the light above the canopy reaches the bottom (let's see...about ISO 1,000,000 might suffice without it ). Without a flash you have extremely limited abilites to photograph within the "selva".

On lens choice. If you should be heading to places like Macchu Picchu or places like that...take the best quality lens you can (although a 28mm is perfect for Macchu Picchu...oh yeah...that is on a FF finder...18mm then on a DSLR) because rarely does anyone ever have the luxury of going back.

Good luck and high prices if you sell and ave a great time on the trip and make sure you post your images.
