A very cheap way to get a good 400mm lens. Good pricing.

This might be stupid to ask, I haven't done any research on teleconverters or how to use them and wanted to get that out of the way beforehand, how do you use them?

I understand that you would mate them together but, how do you set the aperture and is focusing different from a normal manual lens?

Thanks in advance
Steve

K-mount or M42? And does it have an "A" setting or do you set the aperture manually?

this is a totally manual lens M42mount. it's also one of the sharpest 200mm i've used. ut does come in K mount but it's rare..
i don't think this was ever a series1 lens.. the 200/3 was a s1 lens

Dunno

I don't know the answers to these questions; it's been so long since I've used this gear.

Anyone?

Jay Sherman (jsherman999) here on the forum inspected both items at my house. There many other experts here on the forum, too.

Sorry for being such a putz.

Roy is correct on all accounts.

I own this lens in K mount, and as it's not an A-series lens, I believe it's actually more useful in M42 mount as it can be shot in Av. It's a very nice lens, sharp wide open, but maybe a tad heavy (as Vivitars tend to be). The upside to the weight is that it's built to last and will not come apart in your hands, or your grandchildren's.

It might not be a Series 1, but there is no difference in the build or optical quality. The only difference is that Series 1 lenses had faster apertures.
