The FA* is just so much more elegant though! It doesn't have that Canonesque finish.

But the FA* gets scratched very easily. As Ron said above, the F* has better surface finishing

Would that be a deal breaker for you Ron - no power zoom??

Cheers,

Hmm, didn't know that the FA* got power zoom while the F* doesn't ... PZ does come in handy sometimes, especially for a heavy lens (even on FA*80-200).

So Marc, you still haven't got this lens yet? Pity I couldn't help you out on the other one from Shanghai China. Actually I went there a couple of times last year ...

Yes, I thought the F* had power zoom as well. Comparing the photos in this post and the photos in an old Pentax lens catalog against my FA*...sure enough. The FA* has two rubber rings--one for focus and one for zoom. The F*has one rubber ring for focus and manual zoom.

No power zoom function button either. On some bodies, the function button lets you program the zoom for two preset distances at the touch of the button, and allows zoom tracking which keeps the subject the same size in the frame whether receeding or coming at you, plus some other zoom "tricks". Right now the zoom function button is broken off my FA* and I seldom used it anyway. So perhaps the F* is more rugged. There's no plastic button and cover to sheer off.

The point about the FA* color at least not appearing to look like other brands is one reason my kit is skewed toward silver FA* and Ltd. lenses.

DROOL!!! Sure would love to jump on this but if I did it'd be the only thing keeping me warm at night. The wife would positively throw me out of the house. Great deal though on a seriously serious lens.

In life we seldom have choices regarding rare opportunities. Anyone seriously considering this lens needs to know that the cream colored finish on the F* version is considerably more robust than the FA* silver--I know as I own the FA* version and formerly owned an F*600.

This is not a slam on the FA* lenses as I'm a fanboy of FA*, I just don't want anyone to pass on this lens in favor of the FA* as the F* is the same lens with less rounded shape and much stronger finish. If I had it to do over again, I'd prefer the F* for the more rugged finish...

Someone hurry and buy this lens so Marc Langille can sleep at night!
Does the F*250-600/5.6 have like a plastic outer coating shell ? because the F*300/4.5 can scratch the paint somewhat easy, and disclose the metal inside :
F* 300/4.5 ED [IF]

So I guess there might be difference between the design of the F* lenses.

Is the F*250-600/5.6 more designed on the outside, like the A* lenses ?

(I don't own any F* or FA* lenses, so asking more out of curiosity)

A fair price for the F*250-600/5.6 btw, and a fascinating piece of glass.

I sent it over to flea bay. I am going to get killed on charges but I need to move this before I try and keep it. It closes on sunday for those who are interested. No reserve.
