[SOLD] Panagor Auto Macro Converter (1:10 - 1:1 w/ 50mm Lens)

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Panagor Auto Macro Converter (1:10 - 1:1 w/ 50mm Lens)

Asking Price
$40

Item Description
Up for sale is a little handy gadget I have, the Panagor Auto Macro Converter. Slap any 50mm lens on this K-mount goody, and it instantly turns it into a macro lens capable of 1:10 to 1:1 macro. There is an internal focusing element that moves using the focusing ring on the barrel. You can get slightly greater than 1:1 if you focus your lens closer than infinity. I believe it also functions as a 2x TC so you would end up with 100mm. You can of course use lenses other than 50mm with it but I'm not real sure what that boils down to in terms of magnification etc. Note that with this behind your lens, you can no longer focus to infinity, you can only go out to 1:10 magnification.

It is in excellent condition, physically and optically. Includes the caps that I got with it, "Panagor" front cap and "PK" rear cap.

I haven't done extensive testing comparing it to a dedicated macro lens, but since you generally need to stop down for macro work to get more DOF, the IQ hit you take when shooting with open with the converter shouldn't be as noticeable when stopped down.

I don't need it much anymore because I now have a few dedicated macro lenses.

Thanks! -Jim

An interesting converter. Could you post some samples?

Samples

OK, so took a few sample shots a bit ago. It's dark outdoors so I'm indoors with a flash for lighting. I'll do a few posts to attach all of the necessary files. All of the photos are uncropped, with only exposure adjustment in LR to make up for any differences for each composition. I tried to represent the whole range from 1:10 to 1:1 magnification. I used a M 50/1.4 on top of the converter. Shots were taken at f/1.4, f/2.8 and f/5.6 on the 50mm, which would be about f/2.8, f/5.6, and f/11 when considering the 100mm true focal length after the converter.

Samples 2

Ok, a couple more. 2 of these were taken with the SMC F 100/2.8 Macro and 2 were taken with the converter setup, both using same effective apertures (f/11 and f/5.6, I think). Maybe you can tell, but I'm not.
