I inspected the lens more carefully just now and noticed that there's a strand of (hair?) around half cm long stuck inside the lens. It doesnt look like fungus or anything that might affect image quality. I'm guessing it's either mechanical hair (from cut metal?) or hair that comes in when I focused the lens. Since I can't mark it as "shiny new" and sleep soundly anymore, I'm reducing the price!

If it is 'new in the box' and it has a hair in it, I would suggest you return it for a refund.

@Damn Brit: I purchased it from an unauthorized seller in UK, so returning would be quite a hassle. I'd rather keep a hairy copy myself since it doesn't seem to be a problem.... so far.

I can see how that would be difficult Andi, definitely not worth the hassle. Maybe it will move.

If it's a metal sliver, a magnet might move it to the side of the barrel but it might also attract other slivers.
