[SOLD] Pentax MZ-3 AutoFocus Film SLR Camera

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax MZ-3 AutoFocus Film SLR Camera

Asking Price
$175 USD

Item Description
This is another classic film camera by Pentax. The MZ-3 is probably the best combination of manual and auto film camera. It looks like a classic manual camera, while it got many useful features for an auto focus camera. This camera is very rare and hard to find, and a much sort after one due to its classic look and easy to use. This camera is a great match to your FA Limited lenses too

Selling the camera because I just got a Z1 camera, and still have several manual film cameras.

Although it looks and works almost exactly like the MZ-5n (ZX-5n), it actually has the following improvement over the MZ-5n (ZX-5n) (Source from Bojidar Dimitrov's Pentax K-Mount Page):
1. Faster max shutter speed (1/4000s vs 1/2000s)
2. Faster AF
3. Better battery life
4. Improved mirror box
5. Probably some other hidden improvement too.

Other than some minor marks on the top of built-in flash (as shown in some photos below), the camera looks and works like new. It's very clean inside and out, viewfinder is super clean and clear, film compartment is as clean as new. I've just shot one roll of color film through it a couple of weeks back, all 36 shots came out sharp and well exposed.

The camera comes w/ a body cap, a brand new never used original Pentax shoulder strap and two CR2 batteries (not shown in the photos, but they are inside the camera). It also comes w/ a Cable Switch F in mint condition too.

Here is the actual camera selling:

Here is the last roll film I shot through this camera a couple of weeks ago, all photos were taken w/ FA43 on Kodak Gold 100 film. All photos straight from scan results by the shop, no post processing except resizing, and sharpening on some photos.

Several photos from the above roll:

Actually I used Kodak Gold 100. I asked the shop to scan the negatives, probably they added too much saturation for the output I do have some superia 100, might give them a try next time

Hi Frank,

I have an MZ-M and a MZ-5n and im loking for a MZ-3, but at this moment i am out of money, maybe later you still have the camera and i buy it.

One more thing, what is the resolution of the scan made by the store?

Regards,

Yes, shooting film is quite a bit fun. Give it a try, you might like it better than shooting digital

Thanks Jay Glad you like these too.

I've got more than 5 film cameras bodies at the moment, kinda sick I know. But think about friends like Jim King, I don't feel so guilty anymore

Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. I feel kinda embarrassed But I guess the buyer will feel more comfortable to deal with me because of this

Thanks. Hope I'd still have it when you've got enough fund. And I know how you'd feel

Our shop always prefer us making prints instead of just scanning, that's why they only give very low scan resolution: 1500x1000 (so you can't make good prints out of the scan results directly) And the saturation they set is a bit too high, they always over sharpen the results too. I think my next purchase would be a good negative scanner ...

Well, you can always get a cheap (and good) manual film camera as a start, like ME/ME Super, they are plenty on second hand market, and they are dirty cheap nowadays
