When you do warranty work, you have to send in copies of the original receipt and warranty card. No idea if it's transferrable though...

I believe that as long as the warranty card is not filled out and you can send a copy of the original purchase receipt (you can probably just white out any personal info, the receipt is just to verify the original purchase date) then there is no way for them to know that whoever buys this lens is not the original owner.

I know this works for pentax because I bought a K20D off ebay and when it needed servicing, I just contacted the seller, he sent me a copy of the receipt and I was able to get it repaired under warranty. Hopefully it will work the same for sigma. Worst comes to worst, if the lens needs to be repaired and they wont take it, the buyer can send the lens back to you, Ted and you send it to Sigma for repair and once you get it back, send it back to the buyer. But honestly, I don't see how sigma can tell the difference.
