Newbie question to see if I "need" a new one.

Using the genuine pentax battery on the grip when is depleted on k20d it will automatically change to the body battery ?

(With a non genuine it doesn't do that auto)

Correct me if im wrong, You need to set it up on the K20d on what battery to use first. Grip or the Body. this Geniune Battery LAST LONGER compared to 3rd Party Batts with funny Mah on them.

Sorry I never used batteries in both the grip and camera body. But base on the setting of the camera (under Setup submenu, Select Battery), the battery should switch to the next one automatically? Maybe someone else can confirm on this?

Using non genuine batteries it doesn't switch automatically.

I don't the body switches on "Auto"....it'll drain from bothe batteries at the same time. You have to choose one or the other (grip or body first) in the menu.

Battery usage is based on selection in the Setup menu.
The camera default is Auto Select. Works perfectly when I use the original Pentax battery grip and original D-LI50 batteries. One thing to note is that whenever the camera is switched on, the camera will check the battery levels of both batteries (grip and body), so some battery power will be used. This happens regardless of the setting selected. If for example one battery is depleted, just switch the camera off and on again and the camera will automatically switch to the remaining battery.

I asked because on saturday was shooting with a "nikon friend" (D700 FF ) and battery grip went off and automatically body battery continue.

On mine, I have to turn off and on

That was my point.
