Will that 'collar' thingummyjig ["Tripod Collar", thanks!] fit under the K100D flash-overhang?

The collar can be rotated when loosened, so it's not a problem to mount it on the camera, including K100D which I also have. You can also removed the collar if you want, but it balances better on the tripod if camera+lens is mounted on the tripod via the collar instead of the camera.

I found that the BG gets in the way on my tripod, I could mount it on the tripod but had to remove the grip to take it off the tripod.

I guess it depends on the tripod. I can mount/dismount the tripod plate from both front and back. Doesn't seem like a issue for me.

That's why I said "my tripod".

Not everyone has the bg anyway but it's worth knowing.
