Sigma 50mm MF macro lens

Hi,

Can this be used as a normal lens to take some portraits or general purpose shots? Or it is just a macro lens? Thanks!

Thank you for your interest. Macro lenses are designed to not have barrel distortion. Most inexpensive non-macro lenses have such distortions. The AF macro lenses are typically slower focusing, but this one is MF, so focusing speed depends entirely on your dexterity It has the A setting, which means, it will confirm focus. It is a very easy lens to use, both for macro and for regular shooting. I like taking pictures of little bugs, and with this lens, you have to get really close to them to fill the frame. This does not work because it scares them away. That is why I am getting the longer macro lens. For regular pictures wide open (f2.8), it produces interesting out-of-focus 3D looks. I took a picture of our cat, and I will upload it today. Lumpus wanted to see such a picture
