[SOLD] Promaster Lenses: 19-35mm (Plastic Fantastic) & 28-105mm (Tamron/Pentax clone)

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Promaster Lenses: 19-35mm (Plastic Fantastic) & 28-105mm (Tamron/Pentax clone)

Asking Price
Price drops! 19-35mm: SOLD / 28-105mm: $60

Item Description
These are two very good lenses, particularly on film, but also on digital. Both are full-frame, both are rebadges of other manufacturer's products.

Promaster 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 -- $100
Commonly referred to as the "plastic fantastic," this lens was also made in Vivitar Series 1 and Tokina brandings. On film, it's a fun ultrawide at a very affordable price. I had nice results with it on my MZ-5n and Super Program. On digital the focal range is less interesting, but it does have some distortion quirks that the kit lens doesn't, which makes it fun. Despite the famous plastic build I've had zero issues with this lens. It's in great condition. Note: this is the silver version (looks nice on MZ-series cameras!)

Comes with: lens, original front cap, generic rear cap

Promaster 28-105mm f/4-5.6 -- $60
This lens was also made in both Tamron and Pentax brandings, presumably with different coatings on the Pentax variant. That said, I've had no unusual flare issues with this copy. On film, this is a nice wide-to-short tele lens.

It's got very good sharpness for the price, quick AF, internal focusing, and a surprisingly solid build for a largely plastic lens (but what lenses weren't largely plastic in the FA-series days?). It's in excellent condition--I've got nothing bad to say about it.

Comes with: lens, hood, Tiffen 62mm Sky 1-A filter, original front cap, generic rear cap

*free bump*

This Promaster is the same as the Cosina lens I have (and it was also sold as Phoenix and Vivitar), and here's my review:

PentaxForums.com Third-Party Pentax Lens Review Database - 19-35mm AF f3.5-4.5

Excellent lens for the money; I've gotten great shots on both film and digital. It got a 3.1 rating on photodo.

28-105

Interest on the 28-105 ...
A bump - if mine quit, I'd replace it.

I have the Pentax branded version of this lens and, like many of you, I wouldn't have even considered it on its merits but it came with my first K200. It hasn't often left that body since considering what I often shoot with it -- old barns, farm equipment and close-up setting for same. This is one VERY convenient focal range for outdoor settings. Did I mention I hardly ever have to change lenses in dusty conditions?

I've got a Tamron 28-75/2.8 that may be a bit sharper wide open but doesn't have the same convenience from 75-105mm. This lens is every bit as good as the DA 16-45 within its range too.

This lens at the low end and a good Tamron 75-300 DL have curbed LBA over the DA 55-300 -- so far.

Some photos taken with the 28-105, back in late winter, under less than ideal lighting circumstances:
