I have a FA 50 1.4... how come these photos with the Takumar are so much better in color, contrast, and much crisper than my FA 50?

I thought they were similar, and the FA 50 was even supposed to be better... but this Tak seems AMAZING in image quality and bokeh!!! I have a 31mm and 77mm LTD, too - and these photos even seem better than them!

I think it's a post processing technique and probably they are shot with raw. I often see stunning shots from old m42 lenses around this forum from the same lenses i have, but i get nowhere near like that technically straight out of the camera with my lenses. My m42 lenses produced more pale colours, flat images and were prone to CA's, flare or haze. Still, some have excellent properties, like my Jupiter 37A with it's great resolution.
And those shots are not 100% crops, so they may not be any sharper if you zoom in.
But i must admit that the colours look very tempting. Colours have a lot to do with lightning and post processing.

Hand any of your lenses (or even a Lomo) to "jsherman999" and you can expect those results. I think glass just sits up and trys harder to be perfect when he looks through it.

No worries though, I have the exact opposite effect with everything but fisheyes...

Surely this should be sold by now. What has happened to the M42 lens market? Did you sell it and not update your thread?

no clue ... i think the M42 lens market has kind of disappeared as most people who use taks have a bunch and newer users who are interested are put off by the price and rarity of the official M42 adapters and quality of the fake ones.

Some people still don't know about the Tak magic.

I think the Taks were actually forged by Durin's folk, in the mines of Moria. Or maybe they were carried to the world by the Istari.

(been reading the appendix in The Return of The King tonight, can you tell?)

More Tak 50 1.4 goodness:

Hey J, how come you don't stop by my sale thread for my Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4? Is it because I'm missing the magical multi-coatings? Great pics as always!

It is a great lens! Probably my favorite M42 lens that I've ever tried.
