Unfortunately, it has seen less use than it deserves because of the Sony 135 STF (nothing below $2k can beat this lens for portrait work).
interested in knowing which lens over $2k beats this for portrait work

Thank you all for looking.

@bdery: thank you for your kind word.

@k100d: I believe that would be the Contax Zeiss Jahre 85/1.2 50 or 60 years Anniversary. These are going for around 3k-5k. However, I've not had the chance to get one, so I can't say for sure. And from what I know, the Canon 85/1.2 II is not very sharp at wide open. On the other hand, the STF is so sharp at wide open, yet the bokeh is just unbeatable. This lens is the reason why I consider Sony system in the first place. Unfortunately, it's slow and MF only, so sometimes I wish I have the Zeiss 135mm as a backup.

By the way, I just find out about Leitax conversion, which allows Pentax user to use Leica R and Contax Zeiss lenses. The nice part is that it's a reversible process.

Sorry, it was me at least a hundred times coming back to look at the 85mm after counting my money.

To expedite my sale, I am open for reasonable offer. I hope I don't need to move these to evil-bay.

No matter how you arrange the dollars and cents, it still doesn't add up, eh?

The Pentax A*85/1.4 beats the Canon 85/1.2 on most points according to this test: Canon 85mm f1.2 L (Mark II) vs. Pentax SMC-A* 85mm f1.4

The A*85 is usually considered sharper than the FA*85 and to my experience, the Pentax A*135/1.8 is sharper than the A*85.

So I think you seriously should include the A*85 and A*135 on that list, and you can get them for around 1kEuro and 2kEuro, respectively, so at least the A*85 gives you a sub-2k$.

My wife would not be happy if I bought the FA*200 macro in stead of renovating the bathroom...but perhaps I can sell the car...they supposedly only built 900 copies of that lens...

That's like... $1 billion dollars <evil cackle, raised pinky>!

Seriously though, that's a seriously nice collection of glass, not to mention all in one camera bag!

Almost scared to ask what on the Sony side is so attractive that you'd be willing to walk away from lenses like these?

Well, for primes, Sony/Minolta wouldn't do except for telephoto end. However, right now, Sony is just more flexible for me.
