[SOLD] (AUSTRALIA) 85mm f1.4

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
(AUSTRALIA) 85mm f1.4

Asking Price
AUD$390 ... open to offers

Item Description

I just bought this Opteka branded 85mm f1.4 to test it, and I must say it is an excellent value lens. These sell as various brands (Vivitar S1, Bower, Samyang, Rokinon, Polaris) but the optics for all of them are identical. This lens is discussed here: PentaxForums.com Third-Party Pentax Lens Review Database - 85mm F1.4 Aspherical IF

It is a manual focus, auto aperture lens which has a great focal length for portrait work.

Here is a test shot I took the other night that shows this baby off (f1.8, 1/15, iso640, no flash, handheld k20d, obviously focused on the toy at the rear):

The stats:
Lens Construction 9 Elements in 7 Groups
Angle of View 28.3 degrees (18.8 degrees in APS-C)
Aperture Range F1.4 ~ 22
Minimum Focusing Distance 3.3 ft / 1.0m
Filter Size 72mm
Length 72.2mm / 2.84 in.
Maximum Diameter 78mm / 3.07 in.
Weight 1.1 lb (510g)

Includes: Opteka 85mm f/1.4 Portrait Lens, Front & Rear Lens Caps, Lens Pouch and original box/paperwork

Reason for selling? I thought long and hard between this and the (much more expensive) FA 77mm ltd, and have decided to go with the more expensive autofocus option - mostly so my wife (who hates having to manually focus) can use it too.

Chief have you used a FA77? It's like the worst AF lens ever. Great optics but the AF will drive a novice up the wall, you kinda have to know and work around some quirks to make it faster.

I have used the FA77 (which I own) - and I often go manual focus. But the autofocus is fine in my experience, and is enough to keep my wife happy (which is the more important bit).

Come on, now. The 77ltd has the worst AF ever?
I find that hard to believe.
Well anyway, *my* 77ltd focuses just fine - snappy fast and accurate under just about all conditions.
I love it.

Now, back on topic - any Aussies want to give this lens a new home?

Gah, this lens would be perfect. And we both live in sydney. I'll think about it, and if it's not sold by tomorrow chances are i'll grab it. Don't ask me where i'm going to pull the cash from...

Depending where you live, is pickup an option?

Pickup from Sutherland area is fine, so take another $20 off (delivery) and $10 off (cash payment = no paypal fees) the above price (i.e. $360 for pick up).
Let me know if you are keen,
Dave
