[SOLD] FS: Pentax FA* 300mm F4.5

SOLD!

Just sold my friend's FA*300/4.5 here, now I'm listing my own copy. It is in near mint condition, with only some very minor sign of use . Glass is as good as new, works as good as new. The lens comes with original Pentax front and rear caps and hood. It's a very rare lens, and it's even rarer to see an FA*300/4.5 in such excellent condition.

Selling it due to lack of usage. The longest lens I need for now is about 200mm (just bought an FA*200/2.8 lens ).

I'm looking at $1090 plus actual shipping, that's a very decent price for a lens in such great condition.

We all know that the DA*300 won't be available this year. Even the DA* zoom lenses will probably be further delayed to the end of this year. So if you wanna enjoy a 300mm lens right now, this is your great choice.

Please let me know if interested.

It's a great lens indeed. I don't mind keeping it actually, but the dry cabinate is getting full, need space for new purchases ...

That's one beautiful lens, Frank, and your images are spectacular. But . . . I need a tripod mount. Still, I'm sorely tempted.

Your cabinet may be getting full, but surely there are some less spectacular lenses to get rid of first? The FA*300 is legendary, there just isn't another like it.

I have often considered selling mine because I would dearly love a something to 300 zoom instead, but have never found anything that comes even close. I had a Sigma 100-300 f4 EX but that sucks in comparison (even when focussed correctly). I have dreams that the new DA*60-250 "may" be good enough, but I have a sneaky feeling that nothing will ever match the FA* 300 f4.5.

I tend to use mine for birding almost exclusively, but have taken some great casual portraits with it, it has amzing textural detail and the bokeh is perfect.

I now use a Tamron 70-300 Di LD as my walkabout tele-zoom as it is just about small and light enough to be considered in that category and is sharper, almost 1 stop faster at 200mm and has better AF than the DA 50-200. Maybe the new DA 55-300 will be the answer as my next walk about tele-zoom.

Thanks Steven Actually the lens is quite light, especially comparing with Canon or Nikon equivelent. You don't really need a tripod collar for this lens. I used to have the F version, but I left the tripod collar home most time when I was out with the lens.

The FA version does have some improvement over the older F version: slightly faster AF speed, easier to switch AF/MF, focusing ring works even better. But I do prefer the built-in hood on the F version

Thanks Richard for the heads up, and great samples by your copy

Yes, this lens is really a gem. It is so much easier to make good photos with this lens mounted. Just like I said above, I don't mind keeping it actually

Just bought back an FA200/2.8 which suits me better for what I prefer or can shoot nowadays. Hopefully I'd get some longer lenses back when the kids are old enough so we can go out and hunt for some birds together. But I don't really foresee that I'd be using this lens in another couple of years. Better pass it to some one else so it can be used well

Cheers!

300mm still available?

Hi,
If your FA300mm is still up for sale I may well be interested, I have recently recieved my K10D and have been looking for a prime telephoto lens for several weeks - I have setled on the FA or F 300mm f4.5 as my prefered option after having trawled through numerous reviews and forums. Was the price you suggested for US Dollars?

Cheers
Mike
