[SOLD] Helios 40 85mm f/1.5

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Helios 40 85mm f/1.5

Asking Price
$300 USD obo

Item Description
I purchased this from kkado here on the forum a short while ago. I've had a lot of fun with it, and really enjoy the rendering of this lens, but now it's time for me to let it go (if somebody will buy it!).

I'll be listing some more manual focus/M42 stuff shortly too.

Here is the original thread with some great pics and description of the lens, including some good shots of the glass (as kkado said, there are a few spots on the glass as seen in his pics, but in the periphery--definitely not an issue on digital, but I can't say on film).
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/sold-items/70097-sale-sold-helios-40-85mm...ecent-cla.html

The filters are also included, though they're not in the greatest shape--I thought of them as for collection purposes.

A couple of things to add (as well as my own pics). It's the M39 version but already has an M42 ring attached. Infinity focus is not possible, but when the lens is physically at infinity it focuses about 100 ft away. I wasn't bothered by that, because I wanted it for closer stuff anyway.

Focus is very smooth, but takes more effort than most lenses. The aperture is a preset system, so one ring sets the maximum aperture and the other you actually turn to stop down. The second ring can get a little loose, but there are little screws which are easily tightened.

I'd like to add that kkado did a great job restoring this lens! It's a sight to behold and has been a pleasure to own.

A few pics from the lens today. Some contrast adjustments, but not much PP--the colour from this lens really pops!

Wide open:

Hey, you're in my bokeh!!

Stopped down a bit:

Thanks to you both--though I'd have mixed feelings about selling it to you, Gus. You have a tendency to post pics that make people regret their sales!

Thanks kkado! It is a fine piece of workmanship, and you did a great job with it! I love the images that come out of this lens, but I knew I'd have to pass it on sooner or later. Hope you're okay with that!

My god, he's dropping top glass like sand! If I were to put that many top lenses up for sale close to the same time, my family would think I was terminal or suicidal.

The bokeh on pic #5 looks like watercolor. That is amazing.
