[SOLD] Pentax F 35-135mm f3.5-4.5 Macro

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax F 35-135mm f3.5-4.5 Macro

Asking Price
79

Shipping Destinations
U.S, U.K, Canada, Australia

Item Description
What: An Excellent + smc Pentax F 35-135mm f3.5-4.5 zoom lens with original front and rear caps. No original box.

Condition: like new-, except some dust and a very faint circle inside the lens (see attached photos).

Details: I have used this lens quite a bit lately(not in the last 3 weeks). It focuses quite fast. The macro function is useful in a pinch. I consider this a poorman's Pentax SMCP-DA 50-135mm f/2.8 ED.

The lens body looks mint, given the age of the lens. The red font looks very classy. Very well built and compatible with older Pentax K mount cameras and digital cameras.

Found some dusts inside the lens element. There is a round circle on one of the elements, which I have not seen over the years of my ownership. It does not seem to be fungus, since I live in a very dry area. It does not appear to affect the image quality. The low asking price is reflective of this as a possible issue (see attached photos).

The price is fair. The two original pentax lens caps would set you back by about 18 bucks.
Amazon.com: Pentax Lens Mount Cap K: Camera & Photo

Reasons to sell: accidentally bought too many lenses recently (DFA macro; A 50mm f1.2; AF 360FGZ; K 24mm f2.8; 100mm f4 SMC Bellow; Yashica M42 50mm f1.4; K 135mm f2.5...) I have nowhere to hide them anymore. Wife not happy. On a more serious note, I have several zooms which overlap with this one. I begin to use my fixed focal lenses more often recently.

Prefer personal check/money order if you have more than 5 positive feedbacks. I hate to give money to paypal or EBay, which charge a lot of fees.

If trade: Any K series fixed focal lenses. Details to be ironed out.

trade?

I am open to all reasonable offers. I would like to keep this lens in the Pentax Forum community. You can find my EBay record (yyyzzz). I am a registered EBay user since the late 1990s and have a perfect record.

I usually try my best to disclose and highlight all potential issues that are known to me in my ads. They may not be as bad as they seem.

Photos shot by this lens.

Please see my comments on this lens.

I have not used this lens much in the last couple of weeks, since my K10D is not the best with AF lenses. I only took sevearl photos with this lens. They are not in the best lighting conditions. I also have moving targets. It is very hard to track kids. As you can see, the photos are not of the highest resolution. But you get the sense of the lens.

The last one is taken with the macro function of the lens (hand held).

Last try

As my last attempt to clarify the lens condition, I have attached more photos.

For more reviews about this lens, please visit,
Pentax Lens Review Database - 35-135mm F3.5-4.5
Hin's Tech Corner: Pentax F 35-135mm f/3.5-4.5

My impression of this lens is that it is pretty good given there is no ED or AL designation. It is a 20 yr old design.
http://kmp.bdimitrov.de/lenses/zooms/medium/F35-135f3.5-4.5.html

But one can not expect it to beat DA* 50-135mm f2.8, which cost 9-10 times more and has a smaller zoom range. When using largest aperture, it is not as good as fixed focal Pentax lenses. It is not the best to shot high contrast scenes. Pentax is known for its fixed focal lenses, not for its zoom lenses. It is therefore best when step down a bit and use lens shade whenever possible. Zoom lenses are more suspectiable to flare. AF is reasonabally fast on my K10D.

With respect to the faint circle, I want to neither exaggerate nor downplay the potential issue. Please see attached photos. I think the price is reflective of this potential concern.
