Item Description
For sale is a used Minolta X-700 SLR with a Minolta Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.7 lens. This combo is in decent condition, but will need new light seals and new mirror foam (cheaply and easily obtainable). The electronics all work properly and the camera appears to meter correctly. Shutter speeds (eyeballed) look right. I got the camera and lens in pretty bad condition and cleaned them up. Given the amount of dust that was all over them when I got them it's amazing how well they came out of the cleaning.

The lens has a small cleaning mark on the front element that should not affect image quality. The aperture is snappy and oil free. There is a little dust inside, normal for an older lens. The focusing ring has a slightly "gritty" feel, but goes from minimum to infinity focus without issue.

The body is clean and has a new focusing screen installed. The original (scratched) focusing screen and an additional clean one are also included (the two new ones were purchased from Frank here).

Caps for the lens and body are not included, but they will be packaged securely (and the lens elements are well recessed).

Thought I might offer a little more info on this camera to help your sale.

I have used minolta for several years and know almost all of their models well. The X-700 is one of thier best MF bodies. It has a great, bright viewfinder with a 45-degree diagonal split-prisim. It is fully electronically controlled, and has voltage stabalizers to elimiate mertering or shutter speed creep as the battery discharges.

The biggest drawback to this model was that some later bodies used cheap electrical capacitors that are prone to failure. Based on the early serial number of this body (as I can see it in the pictures). This body DOES NOT have the crappy capacitors - it has the good ones.

Several X-700 bodies have come through my hands in the last few years, I have tested every one in the process of fixing them up for resale. I have never found one to be off at all in terms of exposure metering or shutter timing. They are really great cameras (aside from the capacitor issue with later bodies). The Rokkor MD 50mm f/1.7 lens is agruably the sharpest lens Minolta ever made - great glass.

If the buyer of this camera wants light seal/mirror bumper foam, I can cut some to size and send it along for a few bucks, or you can send it to me to replace foam for say, about $20 if wanted.

cheers,

Jon

Whoever buying this Minolta, you can have this Tokina 60-300mm for the cost of shipping, probably $10- $12 USPS Priority to a US address. Just drop me a PM when the deal is finalized.

Wow, that's incredibly generous.

So there you go... a working SLR + 2 very nice lenses + an extra focusing screen + (I'll throw this in) two rolls of Fuji Superia 200 (24exp, fresh) or 400 (36exp, expired but cold-stored) for ~$45. Hard to beat that deal!

I have recently purchased an x-700 and it is a great camera. Good luck with the sale.

I should correct something I said above:

The split prisim is horizontal in the focusing screen, not diagonal. Still a great - and bright screen though!
