Your best chance might be ebay. Every 2/3 months they show up.

I have been trying to buy one from the marketplace for a year now with no luck.

Yep...I know.

I actually also bid one of them some month ago (I was second in the end...differency 10US$). But most of them are only in Buy It Now type of sale. Some of them are not anymore nice enought for my taste (shape...the silver surface is sensible), and some of them are just too expensive...asking more than 2000US$. Well, who knows, maybe one day. Still then I'll use my F* 300mm f4.5 + Pentax 1.4X-S.

(Didn't you get some offers in pm ? I did but I finally pulled the trigger on a mint one on ebay

If you are going to stick with the 300mm grab a tamron 1.4x for autofocus with the F*300/4.5.

I have great images with my (not anymore) DA*300/4. (check my PPG for some samples).

Do you have any images with F*300 online ?

Sorry for misunderstanding. I meant...I bid one in Ebay, not in here.

Some month ago I used to have Tamron 300mm f2.8 + Pentax 1.7x af-tc combo too, but it was just a little bit too heavy for my purposes. So I sold both of them.

Noupe, because I think that 1.4X-S is optically better than Tamron
1.4x (MC4).

I was also going to buy a 500/4.5, then I changed my mind to a 300/2.8 and now I change/bought a 400/5.6. I think in the long run I will be happy and lighter

(FA*400/5.6 is +/- the same weight then the DA*300/4 I had.)

And, if I'm not I can always buy another lens in the future

(But I think I will be happy
