This lens was purchased in 1987 for $2455 and was 3/4 of the price of the A645 A*600 F5.6, at that time, and is one of the premium 645 manual focus lenses.
The cost to fabricate the tripod mount collar was $250

The custom machined lens collar is needed if the lens is mounted on a tripod with a smaller APS-C DSLR, or a 35mm body is attached with a 645 Adaptor K, and improves the balance when a 645 body is used. It can be mounted with the extension either fore or aft.

The price now includes a LowePro #4 Padded Telephoto case that holds the lens with the lens collar attached.
