Item Description
Here's a lens that I wanted for a long time, but it doesn't get much use, especially since I axed my plan to get a FF body to use it on.... This well-regarded Leica Summicron R has been adapted to PK mount using a third party mount replacement, following the instructions found at leitax.com.

Beautifully built, very smooth focus and aperture. Comes with the original mount to turn it back into a Leica R mount (which I'll probably do if nobody wants it here). Has a cool integrated slide-out hood. Body has a little wear, but the glass is clear. Very sharp by f/2.8, and the 8 aperture blades make for nice bokeh.

I tracked down the original front push-on cap, and it comes with the rear cap along with the original mount.

The Pentax mount has an aftermarket cap.

A couple of things to note. You have to manually set the aperture, so it works fine in AV mode. The aperture clicks at half stops, but is allowed to go a little past f/2. It doesn't affect the aperture though.
-One of the screw holes for the mount is right where the locking pin is when you put in on, so you have to push the button in when mounting it.
-it shows up on exif as an A-series f/2.4 lens--no idea if that's the camera talking or Lightroom though, but a lot of adapted lenses seem to do that.

Ah, a famous Leitz Canada product, eh?

Just so any curious readers know, Leica glass is (naturally) of incredible quality with very little variability, and Leitz Canada (their facility in Midland, Ontario) both designed and made some of the most famous and well-respected lenses for Leica.

BTW, my Leitax-adapted Zeiss lenses also report as A-series f2.4 sometimes, but only in EXIF. When mounted, the camera certainly doesn't think it can control the aperture or read the max. Must be some kind of default.

Hey panoguy,
Yeah, I guess it is a default, though some of my other frankenlenses say M-series f/2, but maybe they were made with old M-series f/2 mounts...

A couple of pics of my daughter from the backyard yesterday... (f/2.8 and f/2 respectively)

Had a question re: Infinity focus. Yes, it has infinity focus, but it also goes a little past (which is, of course, better than not getting there at all).
This, from the Leitax web site:
"Of course, the Leica lenses will focus to infinity on Pentax cameras. After checking many models produced for several decades in three countries, we found differences at the point they focus to infinity, so our bayonet is measured to focus to infinity with all of them.
Thus, maybe some units will reach even beyond infinity, in this case turning back the focusing ring just half millimeter is enough."

here's a shot at infinity, 100% crop, then full image:

Then two more from the backyard last night, showing portrait distance and close-up

Yes.

But you don't know torture until you have a toddler.

"Take that picture and I break your iPod."
I did. And she did.
