I have a press on Pentax cap for my SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS

it keeps falling off

does anyone have for sale or know a source for a 27mm snap on or screw on cap that I could try?

I have a source for press on caps, I am looking, however for snap on or screw on caps

thanks

In the UK side pinch ones are available from a number of suppliers...normally a couple of quid only...via a well known electronic auction site

I actually use a 27-49mm step up ring and a metal base from a rubber lens hood plus a 49mm cap - the rings act as a slight lens hood

thanks to all of you for the speedy responses

I have the hood and its cover - 27mm 4:3 Screw Mount Video Camera Lens Hood + Black Lens Cap 8800219892265 | eBay

but I am looking primarily for a 27mm screw on cap for when I don't have the hood attached and I don't want to mess with step up rings if I don't have to

ALSO: If the above recommendations do not work, check out; AdapterRings.com - Offical Site. The world's largest seller of Camera Adapter Rings.
Even if you do not get your new cap from them, it's a website worth a look and worth remembering.

FYI: I just checked and they currently have 25mm and 30mm caps, but not 27.5mm.

Having used the DA 40 (not the XS) version with the screw on cap - and switched to the press on kind - I'm curious why you want this. I find the film canister press on cap I have is beyond perfect - it stops all my frustrations over the screw on cap that I previously had. The screw on cap is slow slow slow to use. In my style of photography I put the cap on and off a lot.

perhaps it is my fault but I have had times when the press on cap comes loose and then it is a scramble to find it

yes screw on is slower but for me, it is more secure

My plastic fujifilm film cannister cap is disposable but I have yet to lose it. I haven't used the xs; it may be harder to fit. But they seem to take the same caps. The rubber one supplied with the XS is known for falling off from what I have read. The Fuji is a tight fit and works well on the da 40 smc limited. You could try one before you decide.

perhaps there might be something that would fit but the lid for a 35mm film canister would be too big I think

a 40mm limited takes a 49mm filter, the 40mm XS takes a 27mm filter

If I place a U S quarter on the part of the supplied cap that is actually inserted into the lens to hold the cap on, the quarter is too wide

if the quarter is held over the lens ( carefully and not touching ), it is too small and would not cover the lens

The 40mm limited hood takes a 27mm cap. It has to be the fujifilm style cap not Kodak.

Yes. The white cap has a recessed inner surface that goes INTO the main body of the 35mm film can. This lip goes into the DA 40 Limited Hood and is a nice tight fit...

thank you for the kind suggestion

unfortunately it didn't work

I went down to my local brick and mortar store Wolfe Camera - wolfes.com

and they gave me a Fuji 35 mm film canister

I took the lid and tried it

it was very close but no joy just a little too big

it obviously works on your 40mm limited but it didn't work on my 40mm XS
