Those orange citrus cleaners and degreasers do a very good job with just about any glue. We use them at work for removing decals on trucks and trailers when selling them. Peel off the label and wet the glue and let it set for a few minutes. It will then rub off easily with a plastic scraper without damaging the paint underneath. The ZEP brand is what we use and it is available to the public in a slightly diluted formula at Home Depot. This cleaner should work fine on older metal lenses but can soften some plastics. With any solvent or cleaner....dab it on only to the place you need it. You don't want this stuff seeping into the lens or moving parts.
