perverted justice stealing photos

now i post this with some hestaion becuse i think busting the sick ****S is a good idea in fact a VERY good idea. then i been reading that any one that rases ANY problems with perverted justice gets nailed. BUT this corcirs me a lot.

this started last night when not a lot was going on and i was poking around on youtube and i started woching clipes from dateline well i started to come across the news reports out of texes and how perverted justice and dateline may have boched there sting, and one person shot him self. so being 3 am and still nothing happing and intersted in the story i googled perverted justice and see what i could see. well i came a cross this

"September 15, 2003 | "Satine," an 18-year-old college sophomore who lives in Oregon, pretends to be a 13- to 15-year-old girl in Yahoo's regional chat rooms. Her modus operandi: "I make up an alias on Yahoo chat. I find a picture from somewhere, usually a porn site. But I don't use a nude one. I say: 'Hi, my name is blah blah.' Then, the flood of instant messages come in. I almost always get a response."

found on

Salon Technology | … index.html

now this got me to thinking, if there taking photos that meens that there stealing. in fact they are making a profet off the photos becuse NBC is paying perverted justice a LOT of $$$ to do the shows i seen any where from 100,000 to 150,000. and the copy right holder of the photo gets 0$. now i also did some more thinking what if they use one of my photos for prverts to do things to i would HATE to think about. this is not a good thing i would NOT concent to this and would conciter it a serise viloation of my work. now this i belive put the people that i photoed at risk. there photo gets used the guys see it and well some one recnises them on the street and i belive things would not be good.

what happens if say one of these people go on to your pernsl sight and used one of the photos of your kids to bate these guys in. that can NOT be a good thing. ok now to models what happens if your photo is used and now your some one uses you for bate. and people are thinking your having coversation with perves.

The behavior of the Perverted Justice "agent" sounds, to my non-lawyer self, like copyright infringement. Blatantly admitted copyright infringement, no less. For many of the reasons you discussed, I'd imagine that they'd have considerable difficulty finding legitimate paid models to do the bait work.

However, in your first paragraph, you also mentioned that you were watching Dateline on YouTube, which is _also_, in and of itself, a likely copyright infringement.

Why, aside from your being a photographer, is photographic copyright infringement so wrong, when you seem to have no issues with videographic copyright infringement?

I agree that the points you raise are concerning, but as a programmer, a photographer, and a creator of content in general, I'd kindly request that you please try to value and respect everyone's content and art.

Since it would be difficult to prove whose work they've actually stolen, without getting caught up in one of these investigations, "catching them in the act" is probably a lost cause.
If brought to the attention of proper authorities (whoever that is), Perverted Justice might be convinced to document whose photography they do use in their "investigations". Unfortunately, in the mean time, the only person I can think of who could use this information would be a lawyer of one of their accused, which doesn't sound like your goal.

A difficult moral and legal dilemma indeed!

Another reason why neither my children's names nor their photos go on the internet.

i like to say that you make some GOOD poince. but i am shore if NBC REALLY mined that there stuff is on youtube they probably could have it removed. the diffidence is that NBC still make there $$$ on it the people that put it on you tube do not nore do they clam it as there own work, people see it on youtube that gets people interested in the show the woch it and NBC gets more in advertising rates. BUT in the end NBC gets the credit and the $$$ i also expect that they do a bit of posting them selves or let it go because hay a 1 min clip gets 100000000 hits they do not have to pay for the advertising lol so the hole youtube thing is a bit tricky is it copy right infringement or is it free advertising.

sort of like if BOB Niceguy puts up this photo in this form of my photos example:

Nathan Combs is a relly good photographer hay every one look

2nd exaple BOB Slugo

hay every one come look at my photo i am selling prints for 25$ a peace

now the first exaple there has a posting of my photo with out my permition BUT i am given credit and no one is making $$$ off it. i might if people like it and wonte a print so good for me.

2nd BOB Slugo has calmed credit for my photo and is trying to make $$ with it and has put it up with out my permtion. this would not make me happy

so is NBC up set that there vido is on youtube i do not think so because there making a killing off it. and like i sed before there probably the ones putting a lot of it out there.

now what Perverted Justice is doing is using a photo that they them selves did not take and clam that the photo is there own and use it to make $$ with it example

hi my name is Jill and i am 10 ............

and using the fake prfile to bring in the perverts that NBC pays them to bring in. Now my photo is being used in comshal use sense as in there making $$$ with my photo and i would not be profting in any way.

BUT that is NOT the biggest worry i would have is that my photos where being used in a manner that i DO NOT approve of. it would assate my self and the person that i photoed in some thing that i do not wish to be assoated in and it would be agenst my will. i would have had NO choice in the matter.

also lets say that they use the brige photo above. now they start talking to the perves and people start talking about Jill and how she is a "slut" for talking to all these older men. now what you have is a problem

A. the person in the photo is NOT JILL
B. the person in the photo is now if any one recnises her say els where on say Myspace her carter is now defamed.

now this is not a good thing.

they could with all the people that they have in there orgnstion find some people i am shore that could pose for photos or create art work ( they also use art work in there fake profiles) to use all they would have to do is ask there members or buy photos ect..

no DEFTLY NOT trying to help the attorneys lol this is a copy right issue and my choice as to what my photos are and are not used for. yes it would be hard if not impossible to sort things out but it was bothering me and i thout i would talk it out with others that may be interested in the matter. as far as bringing this to athortys well i got the inprshen that they can do as they please and their would be very little one could do. i guess help getting people elected or keeping in office lets you do that .

now i am going to sit back and whate till i start getting 10000000 phone calls and emails and hope that my nabers do not mind getting flyers all over there cars because i disagreed with tham in public lol.

If you are worried about copyright infringement - then do four things.
1. Embed a copyright notice in the image. “Copyright © 200x by <Your Name Here>, All rights reserved” (Simple text overlay)
2. Add the copyright notice into the JPEG EXIF before it is uploaded to the net - Adobe, photoinfo (a MS freebe tool) and other EXIF and ITPC editors allow you do to this easily. In the form “Copyright (c) 200x by <Your Name Here>, All rights reserved” The © symbol will not display in EXIF information (it is out of the normal ASCII 1-128 range), to create the symbol in Windows – hold down the ALT key and type in the following on the numeric key pad 0169, so the sequence is ALT+0169. Or you could use character mapper on XP.
3. Go to the copyright office site and register your images with the govt.
4. When you find someone using your images without compensation - send them a cease and desist notice.

However, do not just sit there and complain – they are your images – you need to protect your work.
