I'd get a K-7 and the best lenses I can afford for that $$$. Going DSLR for me is a necessary step towards going pro at some point. As much as I like my analog equipment I'll need a DSLR to start working as a professional. My analog equipment isn't up to it, and if I am going to have to buy new gear anyway I might as well go digital and keep the analog for shooting for my own pleasure. K-7, good lenses, good flash, basic lighting kit, and I'd be 99% there in terms of equipment.

That is a goal actually, the Pentax DSLR, a decent kit of lenses, lighting equipment, et all, and I don't mean to spend more than 3K when the time comes. I don't need 25K though 10K would be nice. I'd have more leeway and maybe I could have a second body and a nice studio space besides.

Portraits, boudoir and glam work in particular, micro stock stuff, product photography, kids, pets, anything I could, except for weddings most likely...

Hmmm. Guess I'd go with

Current top of the line Pentax (I like my old glass so why change),
a few new bits of glass to have the weather-sealing,
a new computer & monitor setup to have enough storage and processing horsepower,
a decent printer for making prints up to 11x14 (a size I like),
a nice lightweight carbon-fiber tripod to add to my collection,
a custom waterproof housing for the camera (I want to take up scuba...)
a good lighting rig (couple of flashes, triggers, accessories, and the price of a seminar from some expert person so I can learn how to use them effectively),
and some seminars/etc on landscape and underwater shooting...

canon 5d mkII and canon MP-E65/MT-24ex for macro shooting

Pentax 645D with a couple of primes (I'd love to try this camera for macro's!).

Pentax K-7 with all my favorite focal lengths in MF and AF forms (I.e. FA* 85mm and M 85mm)...

Three strobes >500W + stands + softboxes + etc;
A couple more flashes and some wireless triggers;
A super-wide prime, Macro Takumar 50/4, Takumar 85/1.8, FA 85/1.4, FA 70-200/2.8 and the FA LTDs;
A serious tripod (yes... one that never smiles);
An analogue 645 or Hasselblad kit;
An EPSON V750 scanner (or equivalent);

and... the mythical full-frame Pentax plus accoutrements (or a 5D II with an m42 adapter and a shaved mirror).

The change would probably go on a good laptop, and anything left thereafter would go in a 'next big photography thing' piggy bank.

Get the remaining Takumars I don't yet have and spend the remaining $24,000+ on some b/w developing gear and a boxcar load of cheap b/w film and a honking big-assed fridge to keep it in.

I can see easily, assuming I stay with pentax, (I do like the cameras), that I would go after probably 3 big expensive lenses, Probably pentax 600F4, 400F2.8 and 300F2.8, Or if I could not get good ones, The three big sigmas 300F2.8, 500F4.5 and 800F5.6,

The rest would be spent on a few new and used bodies, including another K7, a K20 and a second *istD, all with split image (Katzeye since I can afford them)

and then I would fill out the rest with a few more flashes, filters, tripod and gimple head, and old lenses. I only have 20 or so MF lenses, there must be more out there worth having, if for nothing else, then just to play.

As much as I am tempted by the Nikon D700, I would most likely stay with Pentax....I have so far, and could buy a D700 any day I wanted. Pentax is sort of the "odd man out"...kind of like me....and I like that, combined with the fact that they are continually coming up with new innovations that are very useful and well, innovative!

I would spend it all on the 645D and lenses for it. It would make me change my style of shooting, which might just be a good thing.
Regards!

I would keep my current K-7, because changing the camera brand isn't as critical imo, you'd get pretty much the same results.
However with that 25K, I would go out and buy a whole bunch of Profoto lighting gear. Now THAT will make a dramatic effect on my images. Why? Lighting control.

1) more takumars, whatever pickin's Mike Cash leaves me.
2) good wide angle for the P645, and another 120 back.
3) better scanner for film up to... large format
4) A Graflex of some sort, or equivalent, so I can look like a press photographer
5) maybe the new Voigtlander 6x9 folder, or maybe a Certo 6
6) boxes n boxes of film, processing for the color stuff, and a small freezer

All the above still leaves plenty of room for a 645D, but I'd wait a year for the price to come down and any teething problems to be fixed. And that STILL should leave room for a possible P6x7
