I haven't been in the Pentax game too long, but over at DPR I think it was said LanceB was one of the first to coin the term. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You got it right, Pete. I have three 135mm primes and spent much of the last week and a half forcing myself not to bid on a FA135 and a Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135 screwmount. "But you already have three!!! I kept telling myself.

So I bought a SMC Takumar 28/3.5 and a Cosina MF 20/3.8 instead.

I'm an idiot.
LOL!!! Me, I have a 'touch' of the LBA, serious case of VTABA...! [ Vintage Tube Amp Buying Addiction]

Banmw

LBA is like the need to make professional promotion now and then. I will not be interested in lenses that are inferior to those I have already. But even a small step up is always welcome. Difference: a better job brings in MORE money, this LBA mostly COSTS money.

However, that's how I came to sell my Super-Takumer, and bought a SMC Takumar 300mm/f4. And now I am waiting for my recently purchased A*300mm/2.8. (To be followed by the FA? Or a 400FA*?)

However, the Addiction has not (yet) got me so far, that I want to have all the database lenses on my shelve. No room for the 1200mm/F11. And the 85mm for instance, I know that some people live and die with it, for me it has no attraction. Reason: I have a 100mm 2.8, and hardly use it on my dslr (recently upgraded from Ist*Ds to K10d). It's in a focal range that I scarcely need.

In the 17-70 range, I am lucky with a Sigma 17-70, and a 50mmFA1.4 which is really marvellastastic.

I wonder if the fact that shops are on everyones desk (internet), has made the LBA even more addictive. I know people who spend more times searching for new stuff than using the recently acquired stuff...

And then it doesn't matter what you buy... may be watches or jewlry as well. So it is BANMW -- buying addiction, no matter what.

I recently found myself doing this very thing.

So, I decided to get rid of most of this "newly acquired" equipment, keep only what I think I'll use everyday, and get back to doing what I bought the camera for in the first place.

I don't have that many lens . Maybe the LBA bug hasn't got to me yet , too ( knock on wood ) . I buy lens if I need it , though that "need" is sometimes vaguely defined - first sign of LBA .. ?? LOL . I use all the lenses I have except the Focal M42 90-210/4 came as a package with Pentax 1958 K . However that lens would qualify as a legal self defense weapon.. or a meat tenderizer . Of course, one would question the decision to obtain that 1958 K camera but to me it was a "historical rescue " .

I am sure I did buy things I really don't need in other areas as well !

BTW , here is a test shot of Pentax K 1958 with Auto Takumar 55/1.8 , Kodak Portra 160VC

I've not posted for a long time so take what I have to say as only an opinion.

LBA and talk of LBA is only getting people away from photography. In my humble opinion, and this may upset some, people are getting lenses just because this one or that said it was a good lens or to "just to keep up with the Jones" or to "see what all the equipment I have". Doesn't make you a better photographer if you don't use 'em eh!

Are we getting away from true photgraphy whilst amassing a lens collection which we WILL NEVER use.

My 2¢ worth.
