Using laser diodes should produce some interesting effects. I would think you'd have better control than using flash. I tried a tight beam halogen flashlight and obtained decent results/effects.
Have an assortment of various front elements from junked cameras, mostly point and
shoots. Play around with phototriggers(diodes, transistors) and use those elements
to collomate, mite try that with a flashlight, as you decribe, see what happens.
next big thing for me is a good flash.... here that santy clause? (someone inhouse here)

What are your opinions on focal length for app. Ivoire?

I don't use ME all that much, but it's very nice to have when you want it. One of my favorite ME techniques is to take 1 shot in, and one shot out, of focus with the same composition. it gives you a neat effect like this shot of a stained glass window at the National Cathedral in DC that I took in the spring.

If I was doing a shot like Yeatzee, something in the 40-70mm range would be my choice. When I first looked at his shot, the F/FA 50mm f1.7 lens came to mind.

I use ME when I am painting with light. it lets me see what light level i'm up to and it lets me stop when I'm happy with the result.

What I would really like if cameras could show the accumulated exposure on the CCD/Cmos which would be useful for painting with light work, lightning photography and other styles of long exposure photography. But that would be a total impossibility as things are.

Hi Daz, like that first shot. guess a abstract would be... say a shallow arc, incremented
in linear manner could used as reference, target is placed at opposite end, series of
shots is made as target is moved thru each marked 'station',
done in multi-exposure mode as yeatzee descibes. realize, very broad abstaction
on my part. guess a rope or something could be used as reference

I have a short list of in camera multiple exposure shots I
have been meaning to get out of my head. Of course I just need to dedicate some time for a few of them. A walk around our neighborhood last evening brought another one to the mental list and perhaps this topic will inspire me to try some this week or the weekend.
