If someone made a digital RF system, there's absolutely no reason it could, should, or would be Pentax that does it.

Leica does make one, just well out of the price of mere mortals, epson partnered on a short lived model with Bessa that is now wildly overvalued due to the lack of alternatives
it's not a big market though so unless someone really put the marketing money into developing it i don't think they would recoup their costs at a mass market price.

thats because asahi optical got into the game with SLR’s. they didn’t make cameras before that. it would seem kind of strange to manufacture a rangefinder when you are the company that nearly single-handedly created the Japanese (you could possibly even say the world) market for the SLR, and created the design standard we still mostly stick to today. there are two main companies in regards to the most used camera types. Leica=rangefinder. Asahi Optical (Pentax)=SLR. everyone else pretty much copied. (yes I know thats not completely accurate, especially regarding the SLR, but taking into account the influence and standards set by Asahi Optical, id say its fair.)

That wasn't her point. Her point was that there isn't any reason for Pentax to be the one since as others have pointed out, Pentax nearly made rangefinders extinct in the interchangeable lens system world.
