Made In China

I am about to purchase a Tamron lens, and noticed that the potential lens has an "Assembled In China" marking.

I checked my other lenses, and they were made in Japan, Vietnam, and Philippines.

How are Chinese lenses? Are they generally acceptable? According to this site, they should be fine, after you get around the politics.

I don't see why not, everything is made in China these days, for the lenses and high tech stuff, the quality control is definitely there, I don't think you should be worried.

if worrying about something made in China, then should be worrying about something made in Vietnam, and Philippines as well....

if the product is going through the same Quality Control process, then it doesn't really matter where it was assembled/manufactured.

I have had my share of defective MIJ Pentax lenses in the past. I just don't care where they were made anymore so long as they work.

[sarcasm]It's a known fact that the Chinese do not have the requisite genes to properly assemble camera lenses.

This gene originated in Germany. Collaborations between Nazi and Imperial Japanese scientists - including Joseph Mengele and Shiro Ishii - in the fields of genetic engineering medicine, to further develop the possibility of building a "master race" in their respective hemispheres.

That's why Japanese cameras only started earning widespread respect in the 60s. Since they only obtained the gene in the late 1930s, it took twenty-odd years before children carrying the gene graduated university and started employment at the camera companies.

Any lens not made in Japan or Germany is obviously crap, then.[/sarcasm]

Olympus has a lot of their stuff made in China including the e-p1 and e-p2. Nikon as well. The big issue with the lenses is the elements themselves. That is why with Pentax you see MIJ and AIV on the lenses. China has the biggest child labor force in the world at nearly 300 million.
