Tabletop

Is there anyone out there that likes to do tabletop photo's ? I would love to hear about your techniques, setups, and items you find great to photograph this way. I did quite a lot of this back in the early 90s and gained many interesting ways to do setups, which I would like to pass on. This is just one of my many favourites

I'm getting into it again, using light painting:

Totally dark room, small apertures, 100 ISO, 2 seconds plus on a tripod, and painting the subject with light from a small LED flashlight.

It's a lot of fun too.

Sounds like a good idea Ira. Here's one of the many ways I got some good and interesting pic's. First, I made a thin wood frame about 24"X 24" with feet on the bottom edge so it would stand upright, and streched a sheet of grease-proof paper across it, and glued it in place. When it is standing on a table, you can use a projector to shine a slide photo onto the back and stand an object in front to photograph. The slide picture can be either a scene or just a nice patern of something like window blinds or beads. Another way is to put a piece of highly reflective wrapping paper behind and shine a spot light onto it. When doing this, if you wrinkle the paper slightly, it reflects interesting patterns onto the grease-proof. There are endless ways to use this method. The picture I posted used this same method. Happy snapping !

BTW, I also used two or three clip-on cheap spot lights with coloured bulbs to add to these effects. You can clip them to a music or microphone stand .

Bicycle

Here's a simple pic, using the grease-proof frame setup with textured glass in front of frame as an interesting base.
