3D photography

Just curious, Is there anyone doing 3D photography?

I though I can use my backup camera for something useful.

I have 2 k20, 2 M50 f1.7, both mount on a rail on tripod.
Given that I can point to the same subject and can take left/right images,
how can I view the result? Any software to compile 3D images?

There are several 3D sites, but their technique for viewing is hard.
I had to throw up..

Pentax makes an analog stereotype adaptor that splits an image into two. With the special glasses included, you can see the prints and they pop out as 3D.

Doesn't work so well for digital since the print needs to be a specific size. But the results I got have been stunning when they're printed correctly and everything lines up

EDIT: I think the stereo adaptor is only available in Japan or from very specific sources? No luck finding it here in Canada.

I know about this, and had a set for very long time ago 20+ years, I just can't find mine anywhere after moving several times.

If you have 2 cameras set on a rail, you are ready to go (you could post the stuff here for us to see).

You need red/blue glasses to see a anaglyph image. Search for 3d glasses.

I have one app that come with my 3D glasses to do that, but you can make it on photoshop as well.

This is freeware but I never try it out. Don't do that stuff anymore but it's fun.

I used to do a lot of stereo photgraphy years ago using a Stereo Realist. Had to give that up when the poor old eyes gave out

There's some interesting groups on flickr that you should check out.

If you don't mind shooting m4/3, Panasonic has a 3D Lumix lens that you can view the pictures on 3D TVs.

The easiest on your eyes method is probably investing in Nvidia's 3d kit for your computer, but unless you already have a 120Hertz monitor then you'll have to put some more money on getting it all setup. Of course that only lets you view the images on the computer or a 3d capable projector. However the results are instantaneous and I find alot easier on the eyes. I just started so I am still very much experimenting in distance of each left/right eye and how much parallax you can get away with. I hope I'm using the right terms like I said I'm fairly new at it.

I saw a pentax stereo adaptor on ebay the other day, it might still be there?

Ya, I m thinking about 3D TV's and softwares to compile these images (sony, LG, panasonic, PC graphic cards). This stage is research only, I don't have 3D TV and won't buy one until the technology is stable. All these required active glasses. Using CPL as view glass are better, but the projectors cost a lot.

Thanks, but then I have to go back on film, not digital. And require a view adapter if I want to share the images.

Pretty cool if we can find something useful for 3D, don't you think?

There are a ton of different ways to view your 3D photos. First of all you will need to edit and align them. Here is an excellent FREE program for working with your image pairs and sequences; StereoPhoto Maker (English). 3D/Stereo Photography is a lot of fun and very addictive. Have fun!
