Originally posted by Tingchaleun Well, i'm off to Japan and i'm spending more time packing my photo gear than anything else. What the hell should i pack?
Here is what i got:
K100d
K10d w/grip
FA 50 1.4
DA 18-55
DA 50-200
DA 12-24 f4
540fgz flash
Manfrotto 190xb (weighs ~6lbs w/head)
i also have a way lighter tripod that i don't trust putting my equip on (Solingor MB100).
Here is what i plan to do in Japan:
Lots of walking/travelling between 4-5 different major cities over 21 days. I plan on hiking in the city and in the mountains.
If it was me, I'd take:
K10D without grip: It's a better camera and only a bit heavier without the grip.
DA 12-24mm & DA 50-200mm: The wide perspective makes for some interesting views. The kit lens isn't very good at 18mm and I wouldn't miss the 25-49mm range. A 24 to 35mm f2 lens would be useful for interior shots, but the 50mm is too long for interior architecture shots.
I'd probably leave a 6 lbs tripod at home for travel photography. A good light weight tripod in the 3-4 lbs range would be a good investment if you plan on landscape shots at sunrise or sunset, or if you're permitted to use a tripod for interiors.
