Salve a tutti, premetto subito che questo è il mio primo post, e se ho sbagliato sezione spostatelo pure!

Ultimamente sono interessato a scattare foto nello spettro degli UV!
Purtroppo nessuno delle persone che ho contattato sapeva come fare e allora mi ho ricercato un po' su internet! Questo è ciò che ho appreso qua e là:

1) Devo permettere alla mia macchina fotografica di "vedere" anche lo spettro uv, allora tolgo il filtro che rimuove tutte le componenti UV e IR. Questo filtro è posto proprio sopra il sensore digitale, quindi è necessario smontare praticamente tutta la macchina fotografica!

2) Devo filtrare la luce incidente, poichè la macchina fotografica ora è sensibile ad un ampio spettro, ma io sono interessato solo agli UV! Appongo un filtro particolare sulla macchina. Il filtro in questione è un vetro di Wood, trasparente agli UV e riflette tutto il resto.

Tutto molto complicato e rischioso! CONOSCETE ALTRI METODI PIù SEMPLICI?

Fuji makes a special version of the S5 that is designed for forensics and doesn't have a UV/IR filter over the sensor.

It's a couple years old, and uses Nikon lenses, but it's probably the simplest way to do UV photography without modifying an existing camera.

(1) Use Wood's Glass filter or good UV pass filter and long exposure tie with any camera. most Wood's glass passes some IR.

Here is a good, inexpensive UV only pass filter for P&S camera.

This vendor has many other precision filters. If you want UV with glass lenses you'll want filters centered about 360nm. Glass will usually be opaque below about 340nm.

(2) Take uv-ir blocking filter out of P&S camera - easy - focus remains ok.

(3) take uv-ir blocking filter from dslr...difficult because focus changes.... must replace filter removed with same thickness optically flat glass plate to correct.

I'd never taken a picture under a black light before - but the scorpion just looked so cool! How can I avoid the spots on the scorpion?

Doubt you can. Those look like areas of the scorpion that are highly reflective in the UV wavelengths that are passed through to the sensor. The UV reflectance world is usually very different from our normally sighted world.

Try a red-eye editor.

I think the spots are specular reflections of the black light's visible - IR leak. If you look at the black light can you see a faint red color?

This light is reflecting from the scorpion's hard shell. It looks like a glint of sunlight off a car's chrome bumper.

It is not unusual for a Wood's Glass UV filter to leak in the IR. You might get rid of the direct glare by bouncing the UV off a reflector like a white board or aluminum foil before it hits the target; that should remove hot spot glare.

Here's a typical wood's glass transmission spectrum. Note the transmission in the IR.



If it is an IR leak the sure way to kill it is with a short pass filter on your camera that lets only shorter wavelengths pass.
