*istDL to AV equipment

I would like to know if anyone has attached a *istDL to AV equipment?
I was looking at a digital view finder you know the little lcd that you attach that displays what you would see through the view finder example below.
It was sugested that I could us a portable DVD player and attach my camera to that. I want to be able to see the display in real time-not after I take the picture. Has anyone been able to do this?

I don't think it would work. You would have to plug portable DVD to connection on side, hence for the "seeing" you wouldn't use VF but main CCD. Since we are talking about DSLR without live view mode, CCD is behind mirror and shutter, so you wouldn't be able to see anything but pics you have taken...
at least IMO
